Battle.net situation - Edrob @ 7:25 PM
I e-mailed Blizzard a couple of days ago to get the scoop on what is happening with Battle.net. I was a little angry when a wrote it, but I kept it in order. This is what I wrote to the support at Blizzard:
Hello,
I would like to bring up the Battle.net situation. I remember back in
the good old days, around patch 1.03 and below, when Battle.net was VERY
reliable. The problem was I didn't have my own personal computer, so I
couldn't be on as much as I wanted to. But even when I got a chance to
play on Battle.net, it was fun because, get this, I could actually play.
Nowadays, Battle.net is CONSTANTLY lagging, CONSTANTLY down, and
CONSTANTLY has server splits. There hasn't been 1 day in 1999 that it's
been easy to play on Battle.net, and it gets very tiresome because when
I actually have an urge to play Brood War on Battle.net with my friends,
I can't, because it's either down, lagged, or has server splits, or
whatever. I would REALLY like to know what the constant problem is, and
when and IF you ever plan on fixing it. I would really enjoy a day where
I could play on Battle.net. Thank you for your time.
And this is the response I got a couple days later:
We understand the problems you are encountering, With the release of
Broodwar, We are the number one gaming company in the far east and are
selling like hotcakes, so this in turn floods the battle.net. In Korea there
are computer bars that only play Broodwar. Not only this we are making alot
of changes to the battle.net to make it look better, be more reliable and
handle the bigger hit we expect when we release Diablo 2. Just hang in there
good times are coming again.....
Well I hope this is true. As you may have noticed I have sort of cut down on my news posts by a lot. That's because I'm not very into Starcraft or Brood War anymore, as it seems many have become. But I do eagerly await the release of Diablo 2, I think I'm going to be playing that game for a long time once it comes out.

Precursor Campaign - Squaredot @ 6:28 PM
Shlonglor has put together a Precursor Campaign for Starcraft. This one contains the first 6 levels from the Starcraft Demo.
I whipped up a Precursor Campaign page
http://www.blizzard.com/star/compendium/OS/precursor.shtml
These are the 6 levels from the Demo version of
Starcraft that was released last year. These
missions, while not incredibily difficult add to
the Starcraft Story.

3-D Goliath Specs - Aiel @ 9:11 PM
I was over at SC Org, by the way nice layout, and I saw a post on some artistic rendering done on the Goliath. I usually wouldn't post about this but it is beautifully done, and in 3-D to boot. Be sure to head over to 3-D Palette and check this one out.
P.S. Great to be posting again guys.

ICQ99a - Agelmar @ 8:50 PM
Wellp, ICQ99a Beta 2.31 or something like that was finally released to the public today! I upgraded from ICQ99a Alpha (beta's a lot less buggy - haven't found a bug yet...) but I also tried upgrading from ICQ98a on the other computer. Both upgrades went extremely smoothly. ICQ99 has a lot of nice, new features. If you haven't gotten it yet, head over to icq.com and get it! It's like 3.5mb, but definitely worth the d/l. I guess this isn't that related to SC, but a vast majority of we SC/BW players use ICQ, so I thought it was worth posting 'bout.

Smooth sailing for GX - Squaredot @ 4:03 PM
Some of you might have noticed that Gamers Extreme was down this afternoon :(. I noticed this morning when I tried getting on the site (down with school) :). Well, it is up now and their server problems have been resolved.
As many of you may have noticed, GX has been down for almost twelve long hours now. Our ISP finally got to the root of the problem, so it should be smooth sailing for now. It's good to see you all again!

Starcraft.Org Wallpaper - Squaredot @ 09:50 AM
IndoFlaven has released some 'Offical Starcraft.Org Layout Wallpaper'. If you really want to stare at Starcraft.Org's layout all day then download it below =P.
I made this desktop wallpaper to go along with the new layout. It's simple yet cool (in my opinion) and it's the wallpaper I use... so give it a look.
I didn't dither them at all, so they're max quality and look best in 24-32bit color. 16bit will do in a bind, but you're losing quality.

Well, someone in the SC community has gotten fed up with all the hacks, I think everyone has, and decided to write an 'anti-cheat'. New skin - Squaredot @ 6:33 PM
Starcraft.Org is back up now with their snazzy looking layout.
Well it took a disgusting amount of time, but it's finally up... hope everyone likes it. The site is best viewed in 800x600 or above (designed in 1024x), with at least 16bit color. Sorry for the large load time, but you should notice load times closer to what you remember from the old layout on subsequent visits due to that fantastic invention, the cache. There's bound to be some broken links and/or images that we didn't find, so if you find one or any other errors be sure to send them in. Huge thanks go to Lt. Kaneda, Antareus, DrLazardo, Slev, Alva Dyson, and Kynes for their help in content conversion. Give us feedback! We'd love to know what you think. You can mail your opinion to feedback@starcraft.org. For more information about the layout go here. Finally, thanks to Warblade! and his awesome layout for serving this site for almost a year. I know you'll all miss it, but give the new one a chance... cause we're not changing it back
Go over there and check it out now!

Starcraft Tourny - Edrob @ 6:31 PM
Yep, another Starcraft Tourny. Check this out:
We only need 6 more teams. It's swiss pairings (half the teams advance each round). Single elimination, teams of 2. This will probably be spread over a period of 2 weekends. There are no prizes, as i'm not sponsored. Basically, this is to try to meet some people who are actually good (so many newbs on Bnet) and to have some fun! =) I will determine 8 or so maps that will be used......So, enlist you AND your friend now. Details at my webpage http://ascpage.cjb.net.
Well go check it out and join if you have the time.

Legacy Check - Mr. Insano @ 4:42 PM
I grabbed this off sclegacy.
Matt Everett, who designed the now famous Battle.net Buddy, has
completed a program for us known as Legacy Check. It's integrated into
our web page, and it'll allow you to check the full stats of any player
who resides on battle.net. It'll give you their full StarCraft stats, Ladder
stats, and Brood War stats. Be sure and check out this latest addition
to StarCraft Legacy here!

Announcements At Infoceptor!!! - Overlord @ 12:08 AM
187 asked me to post the post he made, so here it is! :)
Missed 187? I thought so ;] Heh, i've been busy making infoceptor better for all!
First, we will be hosting some web sites. Although it does come out of our file limits, so we may
not offer a lot of space. But you could always use us for just the url, etc and keep files at other sites
once your time is up and have the infoceptor subdomain link there. (for example if you're out of
space, store a file at a hypermart.net site and have your infoceptor sub domain point there).
Second, Infoceptor is going to have a battle.net server! Some problems exist though due to the fact
that it is a flavor of linux that me and motaro (programmers here) are not familiar with. So, since
bnetd files do not take up much space, anyone with a bnetd site (that i think is good enough) and
are willing to help us set this up, will get a free subdomain! (telnet access is available)...expect to
see the battle.net server up some time in the future at 187.infoceptor.com.
Speaking of 187.infoceptor.com, me and motaro are going to be setting up a web site business!
So, if you need a layout, graphics, CGI, or just plain HTML pages, we'll do it for a low price! To
make sure that something doesn't happens and it turns out we can't set up something for you, we
go to your site first and tell you if we'll be able to install what you've ordered, then upon recieving
your payment (so as not to be screwed over by people who do not want to pay), we'll install the
script, layout, etc. I will also be hiring people for graphics and CGI or other programing (C/C++)
in which you will get paid! Desolation-X, if your reading this, i want you to do graphics :). More
info on that at 187.infoceptor.com later. NOTE: it may take a while to get everything working due to the
fact that i'm having trouble uploading thanks to my ISP :\

Movie review - October Sky - Agelmar @ 10:42 PM
Wow... what a movie. October sky opened tonight, Friday, February 19, and I must say that I am truely impressed. This was not some hokey movie about killing bugs, or some overly romantic movie like Message in a Bottle, or some kiddy movie like the Lion King. No, this was a movie about dreams, ambitions, education, and life. This was a movie about a boy with a dream, and about him working hard with his friends, through trial and error, to achieve that dream. The basic rundown of the movie is as follows: There is a boy in a mining town in West Virginia. His father is a big-shot in the coal mine which runs the town. His father expects his son to be a miner, like himself, and prettymuch everyone else in the town; it's the destiny for everyone who grows up in Coalville. But this boy knew that this was not to be his future. Sputnik had just been launched, and he stood out on the lawn, along with about 100 other people, and stared at the stars, looking at the first ever artificial sattelite sent into space by Man. It was then that he knew he wanted to build rockets. Over a period of time, he and three other boys build rockets out of components which they buy by taking apart old railroad tracks and selling them, and a number of other odd things. I dare not say too much more, for I do not wish to ruin such a wonderful movie. If you have not yet gone to see it, you must see it. I must say that it is one of the best movies I have seen in a LONG time. It brought a tear to my eye in more than one scene. A movie this good is rare, don't let it slip through your fingers. Go out and watch it, and when its over, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

SpaceDominator Feels Sick: - SpaceDominator @ 9:46 PM
Not Really. I just read another article that is making me a little annoyed.. I'm not going to say where I've read my two articles I'm gonna complain about, however.. this is what I want to say:
Kids Don't Deserve To Play Starcraft
I read an article at a site that said this. Kids don't deserve to play the game of Starcraft. They stated that Kids don't act professional enough to play the game of Starcraft. Excuse me dudes, but your talking to a kid here. Kids deserve to play the game of Starcraft, because why do kids buy it? For Entertainment. Why do some adults buy the game? For Money. So, kids deserve to play the game of Starcraft and some people need to understand that Kids have a right to play a game.
Note: No Offense to Any Adults here. I'm just a bit ticked.
When Someone isn't perfect. They shouldn't play Starcraft
Your kidding me again right?? Not at all, a site basically criticized Newbies and other people don't deserve to play the game of Starcraft if they don't know every strategy perfect. That's wrong. In that sense you probably don't deserve the game. The Game of Starcraft is for FUN, not professionalism.
I'm not trying to offend anyone, I'm just annoyed at people who feel that people who aren't Experts don't deserve to play a game they got for Fun. It makes me sicker than the Flu.
Thanks,
- SpaceDominator

SpaceDominator's Ramblin: - SpaceDominator @ 8:20 PM
Hallo! Ich heisse SpaceDominator! Oh well, enough German from me! Anyways Agelmar came up with a great idea for the Strategy page, and please check it out.. I am thinking about maybe converting that over to each of the strategy pages.
Also... if you have an article(argument, an opinion paper..) please send em in. I'd love to hear em, and they'll get posted. GUARANTEED!(Remember, I like Bulk Updates)..
Everyone's also done very well with this weeks puzzle of the week. Also, thanks to everyone for sendin in their SCM's and Strategies. They'll get posted soon! Also... I am thinking about getting the SCM of the Week thing started. We have a large collection of SCM's already, and more are comin in!(Danke!). Each week we'll announce a NEW scm of the week in the SCM page..(Expect this to be Every Sunday as well). Sunday is my magical day for Tips/Puzzles and every tip of the week.[(It's also a nice slow day with no real news(usually)]. Now... this is something I'm very interested in getting people's opinions about. I'm doing very well on the Strategy Guide, however.. is their anything you guys want to see? Like some special type of Strategy that I don't have up already. Send in your ideas and I'll probably accept them.. Also an example would be nice.
See ya all on the B.Net forums(heh.)
Thanks,

Mac Starcraft - Mr. Insano @ 7:43 PM
Bliz has updated the MAC version of Starcraft's status. Here is what they said.
Blizzard has received many inquiries from the Macintosh community
regarding the status of Starcraft for the Mac. We know that many
of you are eager to play the game, so we are pleased to announce
that development, game balancing and testing are complete.
However, during the time that it has taken to convert the game to
the Macintosh, the PC version has undergone stability, balance
and installer changes. In our desire to provide the best
Macintosh gaming experience possible, we have been working on
ensuring that the Macintosh version is fully compatible with the
PC version. Instead of updating the Macintosh version to the
latest version through a series of patches, we have decided to
incorporate the upgrades before releasing the game so that
Macintosh players can battle PC players instantaneously. We have
already begun the process of implementing these compatibility
upgrades and do not anticipate any additional delays to the
game's release. We will post an announcement as soon as the
final version releases to manufacturing.

Follow up on b.net - Mr. Insano @ 3:57 PM
I just got this off the main page.
Blizzard's web sites and Battle.net hub servers are back on-line after temporarily experiencing intermittent loss of connectivity to the rest of the Internet. This interruption may have affected the reporting of some games that were in progress during the loss of connectivity. While these problems were not Battle.net specific, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our users.
Good, that means faster playing for all of us !!

More on Clan.Net's space - Agelmar @ 3:48 PM
This is in response to an email I got from Puppet: We only have so much space on our server, which is not a lot. We (SCMillenium) take up quite a bit of space, and our main hosted site, SC Infoceptor, is taking up about 206 MB! We are offering each clan 15mb (although our largest site right now is only taking up 6) but we want to keep that space open. Unless you want us to become like Angelfire and offer 200k.... Well, you get the point. Also, I have contacted our host in order to receive a disk quota increase in the hopes that we may take on some more sites, and we plan on taking three or four more sites on. Please do not email me about being taken on, I have selected from the origional messages that I have received. We are not like Geocities; we do not have unlimited resources at our disposal. We were only able to take on 8 clans, with a quota of 15mb each. We expected about four clans, and we pushed for more space so now we are bumping it up to about 12. We had no idea that we would get as many requests as we did, so that is why we did not say "we will only be able to host x many sites". As it went, we went with a random selection of sites that specified that they had a pre-existing web page. Oh well. If you have been selected as one of the additional 4 clans to be hosted, you will hear from me. Please do not ask me to be hosted, we are NOT taking on any more sites. P.S. We did get the additional space that we requested.

News script is fluxing up! - Edrob @ 10:49 PM
Yeah, you may have noticed it on the main news page while I was fixing it. For some unknown reason, I guess that post by Mr.Insano deleted ALL of the html on the page for Febuary 18. Lucky all of the words from the news were still there, so all I had to do was spend an hour putting all of the html in. I think it's fixed, and hopefully it doesn't do it again on this post.

Battle.net is fluxing up! - Mr. Insano @ 9:32 PM
I grabbed this off the Battle.net main page. Here is what it had to say.
5:30 P.M. PST -- Blizzard's web sites and Battle.net hub servers are currently experiencing intermittent loss of connectivity to the rest of the Internet. Although these are problems with one of our Internet Service Providers and not with Battle.net, these problems may be manifested as connection difficulties, server disconnects, slow chat performance or slow page loading. We are working as quickly and as hard as possible with the Internet Service Provider to correct this problem and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our users. We will post updates to the Battle.net forums and this page as they become available.

We may be able to host some more clans in about a week, but we want to see how this works out first. Thanks a bunch. P.S. If you have been chosen as one of the sites to be hosted, look from an email from me by the end of the day, complete with your new address and FTP information.

ANOTHER interview with Giggles~Lizard - Edrob @ 03:07 AM
Well, at least this one is a little different, because it's from the crazy guys over at Simple.craft. Still, they say it was offensive, but I say more offensive things than anything in that interview to Battle.net everyday.
Check this, I scored a great interview with
Giggles~Lizard today. Now, this is not your normal
type of StarCraft "star" interview, this one deals
with subject that people (all-be-it disturbed:) care
about. I must warn you, this chat is pure S.C and
Lockeye style, so Viewer Discretion Is Advised!
Since interviews don't take to long to think up, do
and edit, I should be able to throw one at all you
coolio's once a week. Of course, not of the normal
variety, but along the lines of this Giggles one.
Check it out and enjoy!
Go check it out. I still think it could have been a little better. In the words of Giggles~Lizard: 8D

In game 5, INcinerate defeated Zileas on
Medusa.

This capped of the match with INcineate winning the series 4-1.

Battle.net, and other stuff - Edrob @ 04:21 AM
Well, first of all, I want to say that this is the 3rd time I am typing this. First, I'll get to at my story later. Second, ******* netscape performed an illegal operation while I was typing it. Anyway first I'm gonna say what I want to say about battle.net, then I'll get to my cool story.
Well, first of all I'd like to talk about battle.net's being crappy lately. Everyone is saying that it's because of the new patch that's coming out really soon, but I think it's something else. As far as I can remember, before all of the other patches, battle.net was perfectly fine. I don't think this patch is that much different, so why would this be making battle.net act the way it is? I think battle.net is just being crappy because it's battle.net. And the fact that about 30,000 people are on constantly. That's all I have to say about that.
Ever play the BW Use Map Settings game Merc's and Tech's? Well, my friend made me play it today...and I liked it! I played probably 10 games of it just today. I suggest you go try it out before trying to understand the what I am about to say, it's a great map, you should just try it out anyway if you haven't already. Well what I want to say is, why do people like the Merc's and Tech's so much? I think the Kingdoms are just as fun, if not moreso. It's not hard at all to get people to join your game, it's just harder than anything to get half of them to stay. The reason is, once the Merc's and Tech's get filled up, NO ONE wants to be Kingdoms, so they just go join other games. Why? The Kingdoms are the most important part of the game, so why not just play as them? It's just as fun, it just requires a little more work. We don't want our brain to completly mush here people, so try to spread out your horizons, not just play the same exact thing over and over. One of my games was with Desler of SC Legacy, he joined mine and my friend's game out of pure luck. This was his first game of it of course, he just wanted to try it because he had seen it so many times. Anyway, because of that crap I was saying before, it ended up me and him as kings with my friend and someone else as a Merc and a Tech. It was a pretty good game, but I eventually killed Desler's king and won the game. He didn't do bad for his first game, GG Desler :)
Ok, and now for my story. Everyone know of the program Netbus? Well, if you don't, I'll let you in on it. Netbus is a program that allows you to do almost anything to someone's computer as long as they have a certain virus or program that has been run, that comes with Netbus. Well, I got that virus, and sure enough I someone minorly hacked my computer. I was talking to Deathwing and making up this news post about Battle.net, when my keyboard was acting weird. (Not really) It was randomly making spaces and pressing enter. I thought it was my keyboard, so I just lived with it and kept typing. Then, all of a sudden while I was typing a message to Deathwing on ICQ, this message gets typed on it's own in the message:
hahahahahaha, your computer is fu*ked.
The CD rom opens.
EDROB NEARLY TAKES A SHIT IN HIS PANTS ON THE SPOT.
Luckily, a friend had told me about this virus/program a while back, so I knew I should sign off my ISP and get my IP address changed temporaraly. So I sign back on, and talk to my GREAT friend MoFo who knows about this crap, and he gives me step by step instructions on how to remedy the situation. In the process of it all I closed my browser and lost what I had typed in this news post for the first time. Anyway, I'm finally here now and ALMOST done with this news post, so I'm happy. And the hacker seems to be unable to hack me anymore, AHAHH! TAKE THAT! I AM KING! (hehheh, thanks SO much MoFo, everyone be sure to send him an e-mail and praise him for saving Edrob's computer from ultimate destruction) Well, that's my story, hope you liked it.
