I'm BACK! - SpaceDominator @ 10:01 pm EST
Hello everyone. Ever since about 1:30 PM when I was in the middle of a game of Starcraft with FatBoySr, (that was starting to turn around I might add) Mediaone decided to disconnect. I figured that it wouldn't be disconnected for too long, but after one day of not working we called Mediaone. It took them two days to get out here, and just today this afternoon they supposedly fixed it. However, our internet connection didn't work until my father and myself did some more work on top of that to get it fixed at this time.

The moral to my story? I'm not dead, just was disconnected and now am confused as I should be.
Thanks,
SpaceDominator

At Last! - Raptor @ 4:50 pm EST
OK Algemar and I are working out the final glitches in my access to posting strategies here at SCM. So, in a matter of days, you will start seeing some Raptor strategies. At last! Since quite a few of my earlier strategies had to do with build orders, those will not be included anymore, because of 1.08. However, the others, including "The Art of War" will be posted, and I think you'll enjoy reading them... I hope. That's it for now, talk to ya'll later.

Starcraft.org down - Agelmar @ 9:15 pm EST
Starcraft.Org is currently down due to a server transfer... I don't know why I am posting about them, since they refuse to ever post about any site other than their own... so just out of spite I am refusing to post their URL... lol :-) But anyways, they're upgrading their servers and will be down for a few days.

Staredit.org Closes It's Doors - Canon @ 9:42 am EST
Yep. After existing almost a week, and being down for a month and a half, Gremlin announced that staredit.org would be closed. He also says there are plans for a site that will be for ANY game that can be edited. Counterstrike, SC/BW, Age of Empire, etc etc...

Old poll results - Agelmar @ 11:39 pm EST
The poll has been changed, so as such, here are the results to the old poll.
The question was about whether Zerg were now balanced in 1.08. The responses are listed below

  • Yes, Zerg are now balanced: 40%
  • No, Zerg got screwed: 41%
  • Yes, Zerg are balanced! I suck and need help winning!: 9%
  • No, I suck and can no longer win!: 10%

Rather a mixed bag of results, I'd say :-) Please vote in the new poll on SC:M's front page.

SC:M decision making - Agelmar @ 11:33 pm EST
Starcraft Millennium is at a critical point right now. We, the staff, are trying to decide what to do. We cannot currently afford a larger account at our current host, so we must make a decision. We are currently working on wonderful replay uploading and map uploading scripts that will allow us to rival Starcraft.org, however these things would quickly consume our free webspace. So we must decide - do we want to keep our files (scm/scx, replays etc) limited in number and thus small in size, or open the sections to public uploading and become huge in size. While the question may seem simple, there are other factors to take into consideration. If we stay small, we can keep to our current host, which means no ads (Agelmar is currently paying monthly for hosting, but can't afford the type of hosting we would need should we open the scm/scx and replays up for public uploading, like starcraft.org). If we go big and allow the public to upload their replays, maps etc, we will become much larger and have to change hosts. We have been offered affiliation and hosting by the Gamestats network (an UGO affiliate), which would mean gosu space for us, and the ability to do this. Unfortunately, it would also mean an ad on every page. Currently, we are the only major Starcraft site without ads, and I, Agelmar, rather like that. So we, the staff, and above all else I, Agelmar, must decide what we are going to do. But we would love to have some community imput, so I am changing the poll, and I would encourage all of you to vote.

Starcraft Legacy hosts official fansite database - Agelmar @ 11:00 pm EST
I'm still not sure how they pulled it off, but somehow SCLegacy got the rights to host Blizzard's official Starcraft Fansite Database. Grr... we will take them over! Muhahah! Anyhow, you can view it on SCLegacy's main site here. Be sure to rate all of your favorite sites :-).

Forums get a makeover - Agelmar @ 6:27 pm EST
I made huge, extensive modifications to the forums today, many of them "under the hood". Many of the changes, however, are quite visible. First of all, user text and pictures (Avatars) are now visible in posts. I had to disable custom avatars because we've had some abuse in that department in the past, but if you email me a picture you want added to the list I'd be more than happy to do that. Also of note is that the forums have now adapted a bluish theme, in accordance with the rest of SC:M. As such, many graphics have been changed, including all of the smilies. A few new smilies have also been added for your enjoyment. The forums are really rockin' now, so head on over and check them out here.

MidasKnight Map - SpaceDominator @ 11:56 am EST
Creativity deserves attention. MidasKnight has created an interesting map that is supposed to mirror what Warcraft 3 is like. I plan on testing out the map tonight at Beat the Staff. Here is what MidasKnight has to say:

In honor of Blizzard announcing the delay of Warcraft III, I had the idea of trying to create units in the vein of the Warcraft III units. Basically, all that was done was that my buddy KnaDn took the Lost Temple map and double the cost of all of the fighting units, but also doubled their hit points and shields. What this does is keeps you from making as many units as you are used to, but they are a LOT tougher. When we were beta testing the map, we had a blast playing with these new unit stats.

You may download the map at this address.

MidasKnight Poll - SpaceDominator @ 11:47 am EST
Rarely do I advertise polls on other sites, but I think this time I'll make an exception. MidasKnight, the #1 site to go to for quality tournaments has up an intriguing poll.(Thanks to MidasKnight for notifying me of this error.) It is asking which of their list of 18 nickname's is the coolest. It just so happens, that mine is one of the 18 listed, along with the greats Zileas, Grrr.., DuDey and Incinerate.

Now, currently winning the poll is MidasKnight the webmaster. Of course, if he didn't win, he'd probably shut down the site. I am currently in 5th place with 7 votes. That's dissapointing to me. Now, since we are all huge fans of myself and huge fans of getting lots of compliments, go vote for me today. =)Thanks,SpaceDominator

Beat the Staff Tonight! - SpaceDominator @ 10:23 am EST
Beat the Staff is now a weekly event here at Starcraft Millennium. I just feel that the community deserves more time to play games with the community. Tonight, at 6:00 PM EST in the channel Clan BTS the event will occur. Please log on using the U.S. EAST server. We will not be worrying much about the scoring of the competition tonight, just a chance to play games. Every third Friday of each month will be the hotbed of competition.

Tonight at 9:00 PM EST, I should be available to host the annual FFA. Just be in the channel for full details. Also, Staind will be hosting his first Weakest Link competition this evening. Staind will be announcing details about this competition in the channel, I hope. =)
See you tonight,

Battle.net Status Forum created - Agelmar @ 10:18 pm EST
Battle.Net was laggy today, and many people were having trouble getting logged on. The Diablo II USEast realm was totally down. Blizzard has opened what they are calling the Battle.net Status Forum, which is replacing the Diablo II Realm Status Forum, and will supposedly cover all of Battle.Net. I don't quite understand what the purpose is, if you can get on you can get on, if not bnet is probably down again, but hey, they can do what they want. They say that "Information on general Battle.net changes and new features to Battle.net can be found here". (However, it seems like they would probably announce that in some way on B.Net, or post about it on blizzard.com... at the very least we would post about it... Think it sounds lame? You're not alone! It's there though, so if you feel like it, check it out here. Currently all they're talking about is the Diablo II USEast Rollback and issues with it.

Two Pieces of Fan Fiction - SpaceDominator @ 10:45 am EST
We here at Starcraft Millennium are always pleased when the community submits material. These two "gems" of writing are just another way to demonstrate how committed the SC community is to do things, at least all things except make myself happy. The two pieces of fan fiction are:

Death's Face- The first chapter of a story in the future that will slowly be completed by David Toole. It is a very entertaining read. You can read about this at this address.

Rebel Attacks- Mark Nicholson is BACK! He has produced his second story which hopefully equals the acclaim that the community gave him for his first one. This one is entitled Rebel Attacks. Check it out at this address.

Also, if you haven't noticed FatBoySr's SCM/SCX Section, I'd check it out. It's a lot different. =)
Thanks,

WarCraft III pushed back (again) - Agelmar @ 11:38 pm EST
Well, what's new? Blizzard has announced that they will be pushing back the release of Warcraft III.

Over the past few weeks, it has become apparent that Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos will not be complete for release by the end of 2001. Our development team is hard at work finalizing the product and we look forward to bringing you an outstanding, real-time strategy game in 2002.

Our goal at Blizzard is to make the best games possible. This means that we will not release a game until it's ready. While we could release an inferior product to meet a specific date, we instead choose to polish our games until they meet the superior quality that we know Blizzard gamers and our development teams expect.
Let's translate that...
Over the past few years, it has become apparent that we have been screwing around and misleading the public about Warcraft III. We have removed features, races, and so forth, and yet WC3 will still not be done for release at the end of 2001, which is years later than we first said. Our development team likes to screw around. Remember that little Warcraft program we were developing? The one about the one tribe member? We don't either, we decided to can that project after we announced it would be done soon. We will sell you a coupon for Depends with each copy of WarCraft III. You will need them by the time this game comes out.

Our goal at Blizzard is to hype fans up about products, and then let them down. This means that we push back release dates multiple times, and always remove features (even though it doesn't help us to make release dates.) While we could release a superior product in a timely manner, we choose to delay our products for years, and then release games which are buggy and imbalanced. We know that the community expects this of us, so we hope that we are living up to expectations.
And I've been busting my butt on WCMillennium too :-(. Oh well, now I have more time to "polish the product". Think this sucks? Tell us about it in the forums. Think this rocks? Go to... erm... I don't know of a place that would want you.

Virus Warning - Agelmar @ 7:29 pm EST
Just a friendly little warning to the community, from the good folks at SC:M.

If you get an email from "zorn" saying "Hi! How are you?" followed by some poor english, usually something about wanting advice, with a subject of "Study Questions - Assignment 4", do NOT open it. The attachment is a copy of the W32.Sircam.Worm@mm worm, and it ain't pretty. This person obviously isn't the freshest cookie on the platter, trying to disguise a worm as homework in the middle of summer, but oh well. Do not open it, it's a bit of a pain to remove.

Hope this helps some of you out there.

On a side note, I emailed Symantec, and apparently they know about the recent outbreak, there are popups about it on their site all over the place. If you have opened the file, or think you might be infected, a tool to remove the worm and instructions on how to use the tool are available here for your convenience.

Special BTS event - Agelmar @ 4:20 pm EST
At some point, SpaceDominator and I will take on two lucky community members in a 2v2 Team Melee game. SpaceDominator does not yet know about this, but he's a good sport :-). It should be a lot of fun tonight, so please come if you can make it. The whole purpose of Beat the Staff is to have fun (and beat Agelmar =0). This team melee game will likely be after the SC Triathlon part of BTS. Please come to BTS and enjoy yourself. I might not be there at the beginning (am going car-hunting), but I should be there later on.

Beat the Staff Tonight! - SpaceDominator @ 10:51 am EST
Tonight is Beat the Staff II at 7:00 PM EST in the channel Clan BTS. We will be holding a special event tonight which is 100% based on a successful tournament I ran in the past. It is entitled The Starcraft Triathalon, and more details of it will be stated later on in this post.Beat the Staff is your opportunity as the community to come onto B.Net and play a bunch of games for fun against the staff, and hopefully lose. The staff here at Starcraft Millennium has been continually growing, including FBS or FatBoySr in some books, becoming our new head of the SCM section. To get a game in with the staff, just ask the staff members and 9 out of 9.5 times they will be willing to play with you. However, for reference sake all game's need to have a saved replay and the result sent to me either through Email at spacedominator@scmillennium.com or through whispering my account, SpaceDominator on Battle.Net with the name of the participants, the result and the map. Beat the Staff will occur the entire evening. So, if you cannot make it at the 7:00 PM EST time slot that is designated for the start, you will NOT miss all of the action. The competition will occur as long as there are players who are interested in playing. Each game in the competition is worth 1 point. Most points wins. There will be 1 FFA at 9:00 PM EST, which will include 3 SC:M staffers, and 3 community people. The winner will earn 2 points for their side. The Starcraft Triathalon- An event for up to 8 players starting at 8:00 PM EST or whenever I return to the channel. The Starcraft Triathalon is a competition on three different game types in SC. It works as so. We will play three rounds, and I have in a bag the names of ALL of the game types and Starcraft Fortress. I will then pick out one of these cards and that will be the game for the round. You score points for your place in the competition. The detailed scoring for each game will be stated BEFORE we start, so patience is a virtue. After the third round, any players who are tied for the lead will play a FFA to decide the competition. I had a lot of success with this at one of the previous LGN's, except we expanded the event to 5 and had a LOT of fun. =)Just remember, tonight is the community's evening for fun! Don't give me a headache. Thanks,SpaceDominator

Beat the Staff Friday - SpaceDominator @ 9:27 pm EST
This is your first reminder. Beat the Staff, the best Starcraft Millennium event will be held this Friday at 7:00 PM EST in the channel Clan BTS. The objective of BTS is to play as many games against our ever growing staff and win. Each game will be recorded in the Hall of Fame(general, as a record). The competition continues the ENTIRE evening. At 9:00 PM EST is a FFA worth 2 points in the competition. Every win is worth 1 point for either side.

Games will be organized by the staff and the community. Each game SHOULD be Staff vs Community. This will be the only games that count to our competition and trust me, I'll count a 2-0 win for SC:M if only 2 games are played by me over a newbie and I win both. Won't that look terrible? =)

We'll see you Friday I hope. It'll be fun. You always want to log onto U.S. East as well.

Midnight Madness - SpaceDominator @ 2:21 pm EST
I thought I would just introduce a new feature to our Diablo II viewers. I have been playing a LOT of Diablo II before I go to bed late at night. Usually, I'm on Diablo II at 12:00 PM EST. Due to this, I'm starting a new event that will happen daily at that hour. If you are online, you can join the game midnight/madness and play along with myself. Most likely, I'll be in the Expansion Pack mode. If that happens, go ahead and create midnight2/madness. If the game is NOT created, create it yourself. I will usually be online with the account SpaceDom.

I just thought I'd leave this option open to any interested parties.

Blizzard Entertainment Awarded Court Order - SpaceDominator @ 12:05 am EST
Blizzard Entertainment can decribe everything much better then I can. =)

IRVINE, Calif. - July. 10, 2001 - Blizzard Entertainment® announced today that a federal judge has granted a Preliminary Injunction motion against New Line Cinema, Corp., prohibiting the motion picture studio from advertising, promoting or releasing an upcoming motion picture under the name "Diablo," or under any other name that is likely to cause confusion with or likely to dilute Blizzard Entertainment's Diablo marks. This ruling prohibits New Line from using the mark Diablo in any form, whether used alone or in combination with any other words.

Blizzard Entertainment owns a registered U.S. trademark for Diablo in connection with computer games. Blizzard also owns a pending U.S. intent-to-use trademark application for Diablo in connection with the production and distribution of motion pictures. The filing date of Blizzard's trademark applications was in 1996, more than four years before New Line Cinema began using its title "Diablo" to advertise and promote its upcoming film.

So there you have it, no longer is Diablo allowed to be used in other forms of media. You can read the press release at this address to prove that I didn't just type all of that in. =)

SCLegacy and SCSilo hacked - Agelmar @ 12:01 pm EST
Two of our affiliates, Starcraft Legacy and Starcraft Silo have apparently been hacked (or there is some sort of a freak server problem). The pages appear to be nonexistant, hopefully there are full backups. For those of you who are wondering, I'm sitting in an italian internet cafe here in Munich eating a pizza :-) Anyhow, my food is gone so I have to go, I will be back in the states on the 18th of July. Until then, have fun. (I just saw this posted in the forums, and thoguht I might as well post about it.) Until later!

New Strategies - .Phobos @ 1:23 am EST
Me again, i've written 4 new strategies, 2 of which are typed and posted in the strategy section as of now. I decided it would be best not to post them all at once so none of them got overlooked. They are very short, and simple strats that may or may not win the game for you, but are somewhat fun to pull off. The first is the Bunker Rush, found here, and the second is the Sunken Colony Rush, found here. They are short reads, however they can be deadly strats and certainly should not be overlooked.

    Tournament! - SpaceDominator @ 11:48 pm EST
I was informed about this tournament by Kasen from his very nice Starcraft Site BroodWar4Life. He is running a 16 person tournament on 7/13/2001 @ 8pm EST. This is the upcoming Friday. Some of the rules for it are as follows:

    - All games must be played on Bwconnect (the tourny will take place in channel: Bw4Life)

    - All subs, please report to channel: Subs4Life at the scheduled time.

    - All rounds except the finals are best 2 out of 3 (changed7/8/01).

    - All maps are user selected. If players cannot agree on a map, then you will alternate selecting maps (ie: player 1 selects map for game 1, player 2 selects map for game 2). If there is a game 3, and players cannot agree on a map then they will play on Lost Temple. The possible maps that you can chose from are as follows: Lost Temple, New Remote Outpost, Black Vane 2, Rivalry, New No Way out, and Jim Raynor's Memory.

For all of the details check out the main page at this address. Or if you prefer to skip the complicated details, check out this information to get in.
    Thanks,

P.S. Thanks to Kasen for telling me about this. =)

Site Updates - SpaceDominator @ 11:42 pm EST
All right. Some more work has been done to the Starcraft Millennium site. Let's see if you caught all of the updates before I had a chance to talk about them.

  • Creative Zerg- My newest strategy is up. Everyone knows the Zerg has a race of immense agression, and map control. This strategy introduces a new style of play with the Zerg that involves controlled attacks, controlled manuevers and patience. It's given me a little bit of success of late, so it might not hurt you to read it. The address is at this address.

I also have a strategy that was sent in to me detailing How To Play Terran. I have read through it and I will be shortly formatting it and uploading it within the next day. It's pretty entertaining. =)

  • Map Reviews: Dhavok and Staind, two of our map reviews have gotten the archive up to 11! They have reviewed several maps including Lost Temple, Submergence(my own map) and Polaris Prime. The reviews will show you their opinion about the design of the map and what they think is good/bad and will give you the lowdown on several of the maps. They are located in our SCM section at this under their proper subsection.

  • New Replay of the Week: I like some replays, and I only want to show you some interesting games. This week's replay of the week is a game of 2v2v1, as 13th|_egion/Raptor take on myself and Starcraft_L0rd commonly known as [obk]Thunder and Blackberry as a solo. The game was played on Dark Continent and was very, very entertaining. The game had lots of things happen, and a big move ended it. You can check out the details of the game and download the replay at this address.

  • New Debate of the Month: The first debate of the month got 83 posts!! That was outstanding. Now let's try for 100 posts, but 100 decent posts talking about the topic and debating this time. First of all, you need to vote in the poll at the Debate of the Month main page at this address to vote on the issue of last month: "Do newbies recieve too harsh of treatment on Battle.Net?" This month's topic is a bit more strategical: "When is the proper time to expand?" You can state your opinion in the fourms at this address. There are a TON of variables to debate, so start debating each and every one. =)

  • B.Net Post of the Week- This was the reason why I brought up this idea for a debate topic. A fellow on B.Net had a question about Expansion with Terran, because he had several problems with the thought. You can read the full detailed post at this address. One response was included, because it helps to bring up an interesting thought.
    Thanks a lot,

    A BattleReport with a Twist - SpaceDominator @ 9:32 pm EST
Battlereports.com has up another interesting story. This story isn't necessarily for the high regard of pictures, or the high amount of information stated in the text. The game involves a great concept with one player and one coach. More details:

It is essentially team melee except that the player does ALL of the clicking while the coach can only give advice. Therefore, the coach’s role is to think ahead and do the planning while the player must focus on the game and execute micro and macro. It tends to make for very good games because there are a lot less stupid errors because of the coach, while the micro and macro tend to be better because the player can focus more on them and less on strategy. Its hard to explain exactly what the coaches were doing in the game because all they can do is talk, so I’ve tried to include and lot of what they said in the pics.

I will have to consider that for something in the future. Read Nobody's battle report at this address.

I've found an amazing site for replays. It's a French site, but they do have a English version. Check it out here. They have great replays of gosu Pro-Gamers.

The one replay which I URGE you to check out is a game between [GG99)slayer (Zerg) vs expert)marine (Terran). It's a great game on Lost Temple. Check it out!

Those Little Things and AI - SpaceDominator @ 12:52 pm EST
Starcraft Silo has a picture that defines how things often go for me in a Starcraft Game. A stupid thing happens that messes up everything that you had planned. Check out this picture at this address.

I was one of the many victims of seeing the movie Artificial Intelligence. I had my doubts entering the movie theatre. I hadn't heard much about the movie, and didn't have any real perspective on it from the beginning. I came out of the Movie Theatre, in almost an awe. I knew I had seen a masterpiece, a brilliant masterpiece. The best movie I'd ever seen. I read the opinion from Yahoo Movies, and Starcraft Legacy and I find that it was quite hated. Probably for one simple reason, you didn't understand the purpose of the movie.

Here is a short synopsis of the movie:

Steven Spielberg's A.I. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE stars Haley Joel Osment as an 11-year-old boy living in a post-apocalyptic world sometime in the future. In his world, because of global warming melting the earth's ice caps, water covers most of the earth. Therefore, a race of robots (Artificial Intelligence) have been constructed to help maintain human life.

That's all you really need to know. However, the beauty of this story is behind Haley Joel Osment's position. He was created as the first robot with the ability to "love." This made him fit in just like each of us. You couldn't tell that he was a robot.

Some of the scenes in Artificial Intelligence were quite odd. However, the effects that were used to make this story come to live was amazing. Aritifical Intelligence also forced you to think about some different aspects of our future. Could we in real-life actually reproduce what was happening in this movie to an extent? Could we build robots, that would basically take over for us?

Here are some interesting personal perspectives from Yahoo.

A.I. was stunning, amazing, fascinating, disturbing, and clearly much deeper than a lot of moviegoers want. One of the most beautifully photographed movies ever, brilliantly acted, and more meaningful than anything on screen in a very long time - maybe ever. It's not perfect; some details are illogical, and those with a 5 year old's attention span are sure to get bored. But there's more to value in this film than in all the rest of this year's flick's combined.

I 100% agree. You had to do a lot of thinking through this film. It's kind of on the order of my strategical intellect section at Starcraft Legacy or the Mental Strategies here at SC:M. In a movie setting, if you know you are going to a comedy, you relax, and you enjoy the movie not really paying too much attention to details. In a movie with a meaning, if you don't, you'll think the movie sucked.

This was a pure work of art.Spielburg deserves tons of credit for the film.Especially since he based it on Kobricks ideas and successfully carried them out making it an all out good movie.

The goods:Haley Joel Osment was simply amazing! He can act just as good if not better than most top actors. He made the movie more than great with his astounding talent. Also, the plot was very creative and gave you that sort of wierd feeling all over.Special effects were nice too.Oh yeah, that robot gigilo was hilarious to me.

The bad:CONFUSION was the worst thing about the movie. If you dont pay attention for a little bit than your doomed.

Overall:I thought it was wonderful and is a definite go see movie.Who should see it:If your a fan of Kubrick movies this should be at the top of your list. Also fans of Spielberg should see it cause its fantastic work by him.Anyone who hasnt hit 12 shouldnt see it cause it wont be understood.

I also read that an entire family agreed apon the movie being bad. My mother and my sister are 100% against Science Fiction based movies, and they both LIKED IT.

If you have a brain which is willing to think, go see it. If you don't, see it anyways. You'll just be another idiot who looks stupid by saying it was a bad movie.
    Thanks,

In the Mood for some Replays? - SpaceDominator @ 11:34 pm EST
Starcraft.Org's first tournament turned out to be a success. I'll be honest, I'm shocked. Here is a bit of information from Mystikal:

Overall, it was a success, even though there were a lot of problems, and a TON of things to improve on. Finally, after 6 hours, 2 hacks, and 5 server splits, we have a winner.

Out of the 32 teams, 29 of them participated, as well as 3 backup teams. That's a 91% show up rate -- pretty good If I say so myself. We had over 21 people there 2 hours before the tournament started -- Incredible!. A huge thank you for the backup teams that signed up, and we hope that those who signed up as backups, and did not get to play, will sign up next tournament.

I would just like to congratulate Starcraft.Org on doing something I've never had happen successfully, thanks to many reasons.

However, Starcraft.Org has quite a collection of replays from some of their games in the tournament. Check out their news section for their large array, it's pretty impressive.

But when the most violent storm in recent memory unearths an unfathomable alien artifact, Bhekar Ro becomes the greatest prize in the Terran Sector -- the Holy Grail of the Zerg, the Protoss, and Humanity alike -- as forces from the three great powers converge to claim the lost secrets of the most powerful species the universe has ever known. Antioch Chronicles.. Canceled? - SpaceDominator @ 11:32 am EST
The Antioch Chronicles has been acclaimed as the best campaign that ever hit the markets in the Starcraft Community. It was even placed apon a PC Gamer CD for a large group of people to view this entire work. Now, the thing that might end these chronicles is a simple decision from Auspex. I feel that the Starcraft Community should listen and read all of the comments stated below from Auspex, and do one of two things. 1) Respect that all of us have our own lives and 2) Appreciate Auspex for the amazing work that he has done. The comments are long, but a person of this caliber deserves every minute.

    Dear Antioch fans,

The events of the past few days have struck a nerve (and a chord) inside me. Seeing your fervent reaction to the announcement of A3's cancellation has affected me on a very personal level -- certainly two years went into this realization as easily as two days. From the very beginning, Antioch fans have been a die-hard breed. You have endured endless setbacks. You have stayed faithful in the face of countless delays. You have continued to frequent the Antioch forum (in its various incarnations) while waiting for production updates that come more and more infrequently. You have continued to show your interest despite less than encouraging activity on the site itself. You have made this community your own, in spite of the fact that Antioch's creator has visited sporadically, if at all, during the past two years. Zeus has been your eyes and ears behind the scenes, as well as your assurance that Auspex Studios has stayed alive at least this long. Auspex Studios may not have left you, but it seems that Auspex did.

During the past year and a half, I have lived my real life as best as I could, and I have made a point to pursue my dreams. Since I was a boy of 12 or 13 I dreamed of playing in a band and "making it big" -- I'm sure everyone nurtures similar aspirations at some point or another, though exact hobbies or inclinations may differ. Some people dream of being doctors. Others dream of writing. Still others want to work with people or animals, one on one. For others, it's business, or sports.

Others, like our tireless steward, Eric "Zeus Legion" Dieter, might love making games for a living, and telling stories that people can play and enjoy over and over. I tasted a piece of that desire, that need to tell stories and surprise players and one-up the competition, with The Antioch Chronicles. Antioch fulfilled that need, for a time.

Psionic Storm was a doodle on my sketchbook; it was an experiment. I did it because no one had done it before. I did it because I wanted to know how it would turn out.

Negative Suns was a labor of love; at the time, I happened to love working on all things Antioch. I spent many long hours toiling at a boring computer screen, but I had to do it. Zeus brought new ideas to the table, and I got a chance to take what was good about Psionic Storm and make it great. I did it because I felt inspired and wanted others to play the campaign to death. I did it because I wanted to play it myself.

Thoughts in Chaos was a runaway train; it was too big for its own good. In the early days of writing and design, Zeus and I were charged with enthusiasm. We were excited about all the new ideas popping up. We were thrilled at the possibility of adding new units and entirely new types of heroes. More people joined our team, and the scope of the A3 project grew. Unfortunately, it grew a little too big for its creator, who had started moving in other directions.

During the final quarter of 1999 and all the way up until March of 2001, I took steps to begin realizing my true childhood dream: playing music in a band, and "making it big." In this case, that band would turn out to be Paradigm Blue, a progressive rock collaboration with my musical brothers Juan Mantilla and Steve Laur. Over a year of work went into the album "Liquideyes" -- and as anyone who has tried will tell you, producing an album is not an easy thing, even with professional engineers, equipment and recording facilities. We did it without the advantages of a cushy studio or the sponsorship of a huge record company. We did it on our own, in our spare time, while working and studying and going about our daily lives -- an hour or two one day, another hour or two a few days later -- sporadically, whenever the time presented itself, in the face of long commutes and technical problems. We busted our asses to finish that album, and it's an experience I wouldn't trade for anything. In the end, it paid off.

Making Paradigm Blue a real-life success story is my dream. Great things are in store for us. To those of you who could care less about music, or at least about our particular genre, I can only say: Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Find your own dream, and follow it. Making games for a living (let alone campaigns for free) was never my dream. Antioch was fun, but when it became a chore -- a real source of frustration and impatience -- I lost that spark. Antioch ceased being fun for me. It was no longer about doing what I wanted; it was about satiating the fans. It was about feeding demand... at least, in a way.

While I continued to pursue my work with Paradigm Blue (and my college education, which thus far has earned me a Bachelor of Arts in English), I felt that I was making the right choices, that I was finally getting something done that would help me realize my dreams -- and toward the end, when Liquideyes was finally finished, I did indeed start devoting time to a certain special someone. I would not trade the time I have spent with her for anything in the world, either. Yes, making time for the most important person in your life -- that IS more important than a campaign. I don't think anyone can argue with that.

Many of you have stated that it wasn't WHAT I was doing that was wrong; it was HOW I was doing it. I must admit that it probably would have been much easier on all of you if I had cancelled A3 long ago. It certainly would have saved our diligent and resourceful writer Zeus a lot of time and effort. It would have also saved Blue Team and everyone else in the Antioch camp a ton of blood, sweat and tears. Team A3 have worked their collective butts off on Thoughts in Chaos, and Zeus especially has gone above and beyond the call of duty too many times to count. He has been the real hero in this saga -- more inspiring than any Kuldarus or Khorun or Nurohk. Zeus has been the true heart and soul of Antioch ever since Antioch left MY heart... and you, the fans, the forumers, have kept that heart beating. You've been the pulse of Antioch. You've made it a community.

I have not been completely absent from the forum during all of this time. I have popped in to read, if not always to post, now and again. I have worked a little on Antioch-related items, now and again... and whenever I have seen a spark of enthusiasm from a group of fans bringing an old theory to light (or creating a new one entirely), I can't help but entertain the notion that A3 should and will be finished. I've always had the hope that I'd find the time and the resources to finish what I started -- to end the saga as it should be ended... not with a whimper, but with a bang.

To tell the truth, kids, I haven't had the heart to cancel A3. I've been afraid to. I never liked the idea of ending it all -- and because I kept foolishly clinging to the hope that I'd finish it and make an impact, I misled you all. I could have been more forthcoming -- I could have been less mysterious -- but I chose not to be, and in the process, I've let down not only you, the fans, but also my fellow teammates, and especially my once-partner in crime, Zeus.

Eric, if you're reading this, which I suspect you are (along with everyone else), then I apologize, in front of everyone. I couldn't let it die, but I was too busy with other things to take you and the rest of Team A3 into consideration. No matter how important those priorities were and are for me, I still let you down.

For that, I am truly sorry.

To the rest of you, I apologize for taking so long to accomplish so little. I do not apologize for doing what needed (and needs) to be done in my real life, but I do apologize for not treating you, the fans, better. You have been loyal and enthusiastic, and have stuck around far longer than I probably would have. You have formed a community here, and to tell you the truth, though I can't say that Antioch drives me as it once did, I HAVE grown fond of this group (with the exception of all that WASTEing going on). ;-)

Most of you are probably wondering the same thing: Where do we go from here?

    Forward.

I am about to take a two-week vacation. I will be visiting both the west coast (Seattle and Vancouver) and the east (New York City). By the 16th of July, you will have my answer. I can't make a decision about A3 lightly. If I decide to cancel it, I must be sure of that decision; I must be sure that I won't come back a month later and start deluding both myself and all of you with promises of new adventures and new missions. Likewise, if I decide to finish A3 once and for all, I must be sure than I can deliver, and that I won't lead you all on another wild goose chase. I must know that it will be completed... in a timely fashion. I must know that I won't let you down. I owe you at least that much, if not more.

Zeus has born the burden of The Antioch Chronicles on his shoulders for too long. He is drained, frustrated, and exhausted -- and like you, he is tired of broken promises and missed deadlines. I made Antioch, but Zeus made it what it is today. Unfortunately, that rich world of back-story and intrigue has been left to "flounder" without its founder. Zeus polished Antioch, and I left that polished gem on the shelf.

If A3 is to rise from the grave, it must be by the hand of the man who gave birth to A1. I have to love doing it again. I have to make it my own once more. Nothing will happen if I don't.

Eric, you've done your part. The load's off your shoulders, even though you will always be the voice of not only Moloch, but also the fans. If Antioch dies, then at least there are two campaigns and a thriving community of friends left in its wake. If it is to live, well... We'll see. No promises either way. I've learned better.

To all of you, I offer my apology, and my sincerest thanks for making Antioch YOUR own. Thank you for having fun with it, and for having fun around each other. I hope at the very least that I've given you something to smile about over the past three years.

You have my apology, and my explanation.

As for my answer, you'll have that on July 16th.

    Sincerely,
    Ruben "Auspex" Moreno

On July 16th, the decision will be made whether or not to continue this series. The post was one of the best written things that I have ever read, even though I had never personally known the guy. However, I did know who he was, and I knew of his amazing accomplishment. Doing work on Starcraft isn't supposed to be a labor of hard work and misery. It's supposed to be a labor of fun and hard work.

Auspex is experiencing something that I have also been considering for an extremely long time. At times, I've run events on Battle.Net and I've done things and I've really thought out to myself: "Why the hell am I still doing this." Those events, the things that I spend a lot of my time developing and executing are quite often shattered and broken by the lack of a person being intelligent enough to listen to a single command.

My own position has been considered null and void as well. I have by some been considered a great strategist. By others, I've been considered a fraud because I'm not the greatest SC player in the world. Does this make for fun?

However, my own personal thoughts are just to show one thing. It happens to all of us. I wish Auspex the best in his life that is bound to be extremely successful. There are two ways in which you can make your own view counted.

Starcraft Silo Strat - SpaceDominator @ 6:05 pm EST
The good folks over at Starcraft Silo have decided to produce some content. Quite a shock in my opinion, considering that one of my favorite SC Players FBS works there. Napoleic, one of the best strategy writers out there today decided to produce a very exciting document. This exciting document details the Protoss Game Plan vs the Terran's in 1.08. You will also be able to watch some exciting(ho hum) Replays of samples on how to do it. It is an outstanding read at this address.

Happy Fourth of July - SpaceDominator @ 10:59 am EST
A pleasant good day to all in the United States. Have a safe, wonderful day and evening with the fireworks and the festivities. Don't get burned. =)

I found a very good article describing the purpose of the 4th of July in more extravagent words. Below are these words:

Most people in the United States celebrate the 4th of July, but do you know exactly why the holiday is so important to our country? Imagine how you would feel if someone older than you (maybe an older sister or brother) kept telling you what to do all of the time and kept taking more and more of your allowance. That is how the colonists felt in the years leading up to 1776. England kept trying to make the colonists follow more rules and pay higher taxes. People started getting mad and began making plans to be able to make their own rules. They no longer wanted England to be able to tell them what to do, so they decided to tell England that they were becoming an independent country. (To be independent means to take care of yourself, making your own rules and providing for your own needs.)

The Congress met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and they appointed a committee (a group of people working together to do a specific job) to write a formal document that would tell England that the Americans had decided to govern themselves. The committee asked Thomas Jefferson to write a draft (first try) of the document, so he worked for days, in absolute secret, until he had written a document that he thought said everything important that the committee had discussed. On June 28, 1776, the committee met to read Jefferson's "fair"copy (he put his best ideas together and wrote them neatly.) They revised (made some changes) the document and declared their independence on July 2, 1776. They officially adopted it (made it theirs) on July 4, 1776. That is why we call it "Independence Day." Congress ordered that all members must sign the Declaration of Independence and they all began signing the "official" copy on August 2, 1776. In January of the next year, Congress sent signed copies to all of the states.

The Declaration of Independence is more than just a piece of paper. It is a symbol of our country's independence and commitment to certain ideas. A symbol is something that stands for something else. Most people can look at a certain little "swish" and know that it stands for "Nike." Well, the signers of the Declaration of Independence wanted the citizens of the United States to have a document that spelled out what was important to our leaders and citizens. They wanted us to be able to look at the Declaration of Independence and immediately think of the goals we should always be working for, and about the people who have fought so hard to make these ideas possible. The people who signed the Declaration risked being hanged for treason by the leaders in England. They had to be very brave to sign something that would be considered a crime! So every time we look at the Declaration of Independence, we should think about all of the effort and ideas that went into the document, and about the courage it took for these people to stand up for what they knew was right -- independence!

Site Updates - SpaceDominator @ 11:54 pm EST
Throughout the page there have been some slight updates that you may or may not have noticed.

  • New Tip of the Week- One of my fellow workers at SC:L has decided to start submitting some very useful tips for everyone to view. The tip currently up has to do with the High Ground.

  • New Puzzle of the Week- The shortest Puzzle of the Week you'll ever see. The puzzle? How can 1 Siege Tank defeat 8 Reavers? Try thinking about that one for a while. =)

  • SCM Reviews- Currently in the SCM section we have up a Map review on Lost Temple written by Staind. There will be a large number more up within the next couple of days(3). You can view his article at this address.

  • The Keys To Winning in Starcraft- A long, long time ago a fellow named "Twip" wrote an article on the B.Net forums about the keys to winning in a game of Starcraft. The document went into details about his opinions in what makes the difference in a game of Starcraft. The read is very long. However, once you are done reading it you will have become a much better player. You can read this wonderful article at this address.

  • Life As A Marine- We also have a new fan fiction story up. This hairraising story takes you through the horrors of being an ordinary Marine on the battlefield. The adventures he goes through aren't anything of the spectacular nature, but the story is entertaining to read. You can read Mr. Mark Nicholson's work at this address.

  • The Diary of Somjah- I have a very good friend of mine who has been playing the game of Starcraft for a quite a long time. He hasn't turned in to the most spectacular player in the world. However, that doesn't mean that throughout his SC Playing Career he has gone through improvements/discouragements and the such. This new feature at SC:M will be focusing on the thoughts of this SC player. I will also need a few other players to participate in this study. You will be writing on a daily or weekly basis about your opinions/games and the such in SC. If you have interest in doing this for us, please email me at this address.

Tournament and Beat the Staff- I plan on hosting one small tournament in the month of July. The tournament would run very simply. You would go into the channel, at the designated time. You will then challenge other teams who showed up to games of SC. You can play up to 3 games with each team. Every Game's result would be whispered to one of the SC:M representatives at the competition. Oh yeah, we'd play too. =)

Beat the Staff has become a monthly event for the time being. Beat the Staff will occur on the 3rd Friday of every month. It's basically open gaming. However, on Friday nights generally there is other gaming that is going on through Starcraft Legacy and the such. The reason BTS is being held only monthly is simple. BTS will be a special event, because SC:M will own the community on these days.

That is everything I have to say, and you never know when the next surprise here at SC:M is coming. =)
    Thanks a lot,

Sweden vs Germany - SpaceDominator @ 11:31 pm EST
The most exciting competitions that occur have got to be the ones to this level. Not only are these people who enjoy the game of Starcraft, they are representing their own respective countries. I give them a lot of respect.

However, being part German this competition holds a little weight. However, Sweden won the competition at 5-4. The results were as follows:

    1on1:

  • Saft[Gi] - [pG]Fisheye 1 - 2
  • StarGlenn[Gi] - TAMM|Socke 2 - 1
  • |aNc|Kenka - taMeTheSheep 2 - 0
  • |aNc|Dealer - [pG]Kosh 1 - 2
  • Kovax[Gi] - Dalai 2 - 1
  • Nebboas - TAMM|pLaG 1 - 2

    1on1 = 3-3

    2on2:
  • Mad'Frog/StarGlenn [Gi]- TAMM|Socke/TAMM|pLaG 0 - 2
  • Dealer/Nebboas - Rookie/Kosh 2 - 0
  • Pey/Domi [B] - [pG]Fisheye/FA_Viper 2 - 0

    2on2 = 2-1

It looked like a very enjoyable tournament for both sides. It also looked like it was a very nervewrecking experience for these players as well.

Thanks to Broodwar.com for this information.

Starcraft.org has put up a Who's Who of Starcraft section at their site. Interesting read, but I might question the 'who's hot' section. You guys tell me though. Check it out.

The tourney has come to a close... - Chrisjc @ 12:30 am EST
...and the winner is ManiacTheZealot! ^.^ He played a best of 3 match with [Kp]-Tae- to make it more fair, I guess. I was at a wedding so I wasn't able to wander around on battle.net waiting for them to complete their games.

Everyone shower him with gifts and congratulate him for his mad skeelz.. er :) Don't forget to congratulate the other people who endured the horrible mismanagement and stayed with us even when our overambitious tournament mostly flopped. That, and they played well :p

For your entertainment, I present the following:
    Round 1 Attendance: 14%
    Round 2 Attendance: 72%
    Round 3 Attendance: 100%
    Round 4 Attendance: 100%
    Round 5 Attendance: 100% (duh)
Wait, were you expecting the replays? I'll get those done after I fall asleep and wake up since I only have round 1 uploaded and added. Maybe even horribly written overviews of some of them (maybe SD can help out in this department). Hell, I might even fix up the script.
