5 New Maps - FatBoySr @ 6:55 pm EST
Sorry for the lack of updates of late, I've been really screwed over by my comp's processor. I think I've gotten it on a steady mood for now... Until someone donate some money to the FatBoySr Funky Funds (surely a ripoff of Noble Trust Funds), I will be forced to stick with this computer for a while. I have 5 new maps distributed among the submitted section for your viewing pleasures, all by an old friend Korang from SCLegacy.

Also, this just in, Agelmar is now known as %f26. (;

Almost back - Agelmar @ 11:10 pm EST
The new heatsink came today (processor came yesterday), so I am finally good to go :-) Windows XP is installing (looks to be a little past half way through). Once it is done installing, I have to load my drivers and reinstall half my programs... so I might be done by about 3am :-) With luck, I should be back on after work tomorrow (8PM ET). We'll see though, it all depends on how much I get reinstalled tonight and how much I put off until tomorrow ;-) Anyhow, my hardware is working fine (got the Athlon 1.4 overclocked to 1.7GHz, gotta love the AYHJA's... running at a cool 57ºC)

If you sent me an email, I might have gotten it, I might not have... if you don't get a response, just try re-sending your email and I will get back to you. My email has been flaky with my main system being down and all. Anyhow, I should be back up in full force soon :-) Watch out!

New Battle.net Features - Chrisjc @ 9:57 pm EST
Battle.net has implemented a buddy list to USEast. Initially it was somewhat buggy: it didn't seem to work properly, some users showed up online and others offline, or the mutual part didn't seem to work, but they quickly patched the realm again, and it seems to be working great.

For information on this feature, type /help friends and /help options on battle.net or go to http://www.battle.net/chat/friends.shtml

StarCraft Server Down - Staind @ 2:33 pm EST
It seems that Battle.net will be down for the next four hours. The work should be finished around 6:30. Many believe that they are updating the new patch or adding servers for faster response. We'll have to see at 6:30. All details can be found at Battle.net

Starcraft.org down again - Agelmar @ 8:38 pm EST
It seems like many sites have been experiencing downtime lately. Starcraft.org is once again down for "bug fixes" on the server, et. all. We will probably be down soon for a server move. I was planning to move this weekend, but I tried to upgrade my computer, and my heatsink was dead, so now I am without my main computer. I should be back on sometime early next week. We'll see.

Not on much - Agelmar @ 12:25 am EST
Some of you have noticed my absence in the news and forums lately. I am building a super new computer (which is gosu and happy), unfortunately my heatsink was dead on arrival. As such, I am without my main computer (took a few parts out of the old one (i.e. 75gb harddrives and NICs). The new heatsink should arrive on Monday or Tuesday, at which time I will be back in business. Until then however, I am a bit... disconnected :-( Just thought I'd fill you all in.

P.S. for those of you who care, system specs are as follows:
ABIT KG7-RAID, Athlon 1.4 266 overclocked to 1725MHz (11.5*150), 512mb Corsair PC2400 DDR RAM (CAS2 of course), Hercules 3d Prophet III (GeForce3), 2 IBM Deskstar 75GXP's in a RAID-0 config. And it's all being held up by a stupid heatsink :-( (fan doesnt work, so I cant use my system.) (for those who care, it's a Dragon Orb 3).

Anyhow, I hope to be back soon. Until then.

New Replay Glitch - Staind @ 4:04 pm EST
Blizzard recently implented the replay aspect into Broodwar and along with it came many bugs mainly the right click on the portrait and there is the units commands. Well cheating is done by many when playing against a computer what happens when you watch a replay of you cheating against the computer? Well it shows you cheating of course but when you take that replay to the internet and show it online the computer makes up the game. I had one replay of me massing in probes (the power of the probe) and it showed me making one probe that was it. Then the computer attacking me with 20 marines and winning. When really I made 5 nexuses (using show me the money) and 200 probes. What does this mean in Computer AI where they simply make up the ending? Or the entire game for that matter. This is most effective when the game is long. Maybe 5 mins or 10 mins. Also will this problem be fixed in Patch 1.09? We will soon find out...-Staind

Another Fiction - FatBoySr @ 7:51 pm EST
Another fiction, this one not as good as Cronoss's but I believe it's worth a read. It lacks some mechanical skills but has a very interesting story tied to its back (includes one of my favorite characters). Check out Chapter 1: Daedulus of Ties of Blood by John Doe.

My Life For Aiur: Ground Zero - FatBoySr @ 7:43 pm EST
Cronoss has uploaded Chapter 9 of My Life for Aiur, entitled Ground Zero, on APP. I didn't think it was as interesting as his previous chapters, which I thought were not as quite hand to hand with real StarCraft. But it's for you to judge. Here we follow Ethan further into Djakel, here's a little snippet:

"Directly in front of Ethan (albeit several kilometers down) the North Chau Sea spread in a shimmering carpet of waves for several hundred miles, over the North Pole to the shores of the continent on the opposite side of Chau Sara from Djakel. Turning one-hundred and eighty degrees, Ethan faced directly south, revealing a good portion of the rustic Djakel Starport. Ethan clambered towards the bunker window railing, which was about four feet off of the bunker’s grated floor, giving him a better view to the spectacles to the south. Below him and the bunker’s edge, the Ridge’s cliff sloped out – a dark mass of what seemed to be angles and protrusions, until it descended directly into the green, murky and polluted Djakel Lagoon. Within the city, even from this height, Ethan could make out thousands of virocars – mere blips of light – zooming around between the city’s dusty grey skyscrapers..."
Be looking forward to the next chapter as Cronoss gets his mind working again. Check out the chapter here.

Video Games Bad! - FatBoySr @ 7:32 pm EST
This came as a surprise to me when I saw this article over at SCLegacy over a CNN article of how videos games will harm the brain. This was a surprise because I have always believed that video games would stimulate the brain to be more well coordinated and would help us react to situations faster. Also, I remember reading the same article that SpaceDominator had showed me a few weeks back proclaiming scientists have agreed with my beliefs (hehe damn right). However, the new updated article reads as follows:

"According to the Observer newspaper, the man behind the study, Professor Ryuta Kawashima of Japan's Tohoku University, found that computer games only stimulate activity in the parts of the brain associated to vision and movement.

His findings indicated that children who play computer games halt the development process in other key areas of the brain, affecting their ability to control potentially anti-social elements of their behavior."

After reading over the entire article here, I've only partially agreed with those scientists. They state that we, as video gamers, would certainly not develop as good social behaviors as those that go outside and really 'socialize,' but that's a big DUH isn't it? Secondly, they say that we would be and increasing violent society due to video games. I would agree with my pal Alphaomega over at SCS when he wrote his editorial on gaming violence. If we were certainly smart enough to realize that it's a video game, there wouldn't be as much violence. But for those that are not smart enough, I would believe video games are not their only gateway to violence.

Other 'Tank Crushes' - FatBoySr @ 7:20 pm EST
The feature of the Tank Crush has not only affected the Tank, but many others as well. It has been confirmed that landing buildings on DWebs and DarkSwarms will disable it, as well as killing Devourer and Guardian cacoons. I think the Terran building is being more of a key unit than my gosu probe. ):

'Muting' CD Keys - FatBoySr @ 7:13 pm EST
Blizzard Entertainment have implemented a muting policy in which allows Blizzard officials to 'mute' CD keys of those who break their Terms of Use agreement by spamming or posting porn ads. 'Muting' will silence those Bnet players that are chatting on Bnet.

"Blizzard Entertainment has implemented a change to its sysop capabilities on Battle.net that enables authorized Blizzard Entertainment personnel to “mute” certain players on Battle.net. The muting function will allow us to make silent those players chatting in Battle.net who are found to be in violation of our Battle.net Terms of Use agreement. Other players will not see what the "muted" person has typed. Muted CD-Keys will not, in any way, affect actual gameplay. Muted players will be able to chat in-game only."
For more information, you can visit the Q&A page posted on Battle.net forums.

Petition for Faster Ladder Games In SC Patch 1.09 - Staind @ 1:34 pm EST
Ladder games aren't a big hit on StarCraft. Many avoid the games because of the slower games. I personally avoid them myself. Many StarCraft players would start to play ladder games if the speed could be set to fastest. You can petition for the faster ladder games here: http://www.PetitionOnline.com/scaddict/. So far the petition has around 200 Petitioners hopefully we'll get a few more. If you want or need more details you can email the kendall@saville.com

Tsunami Guide - FatBoySr @ 11:15 am EST
One of my favorite sc players, other than IntotheRain and SpaceDominator, 1st~Tsunami has written a strat guide to SC. Quite expected, my gosu friend has not wrote about build orders nor specific strategies, but rather, explained the concepts and mechanics of the game. For those that know him, the strategy wasn't only about Zerg, but overall gameplay. He also included some reasonable and good Protoss content as well, for those of you that are interested. He already has nine sections set up for you to read, so check them out here.

I think ~!Freak!~ spends too much time on his replays :|.

Mental Strategies Series #3! - SpaceDominator @ 12:38 am EST
Tonight I have debuted my third set of Mental Strategies here at Starcraft Millennium. For full information about the entire series of Mental Strategies that I have written, you need to check out my introductory article at this address. It is almost like a key to the lock to reveal the full meaning behind everything I've been writing for the past few years.

I also have debuted my first mental strategy of the third set entitled "Is it worth it to gamble?" It is focused apon the thought of the third series of Judgement. Depending apon the players style and how they look at a situation in the game of Starcraft, it determines whether a player will take a risky chance on an attack that could cost them the game. Or an attack that could put them into a deep hole in a game. I come up with two questions and use a LOT of analogies to horse racing. Horse Racing is entirely gambling and playing the odds and the such. Starcraft is the same way. You are gambling every time you do something. I even do something quite off the wall and compare players styles to horses.

I also in this document decide to do something a bit different and give a chance for you to personalize the strategy at hand. I give 5 questions/situations that are based on the topic and they'll give you a good aspect on the position you are based on in accordance to that idea. Or in this case, how risky of a SC player you are. I am willing to take emails of answers of these questions and the such.

Oh yeah, you might want to read the article right? Check it out at this address.
Enjoy!

Battle.Net Gateways Disconnected - SpaceDominator @ 6:18 pm EST
I'm as good of a person to be a news hound. I'll always find something.

Anyways, Blizzard Entertainment made an interesting announcement yesterday and it has already happened. I believe that everyone should be informed about this.

Recently connectivity between our connected Battle.net Gateways (Europe, USEast, and USWest) has been very poor and unreliable most of the time, especially during peak hours of play. This loss in connectivity can lead to unfortunate consequences, such as account ownership changes. See the Technical Support forum post about Invalid Password Errors for more details:

http://www.battle.net/forums/support/posts/wd/100.shtml

-The Battle.net Team

No longer can U.S. East server players play with U.S. West players, just like the Diablo system. Another really popular move from Blizzard's standpoint, .

Beat the Staff TONIGHT! - SpaceDominator @ 9:45 am EST
The next edition of Beat the Staff is happening tonight at 7:00 PM Eastern in the channel Clan BTS. Please keep track of your record against the staff or community. These numbers will be used for the Hall of Fame and at the end of the evening please email me at this address, your current record and any replays that you would like to have posted.

Beat the Staff is an event that is made for 100% fun so have it, it's not a matter of which side wins(besides 9 out of 10 times no one knows the score), it's all about enjoying yourself. Just remember to email me your record so I can start to compile my Top 10 listing in the Hall of Fame.

If you ever have a really cool game that you end up Battle Reporting, please email the Battle Report to myself for posting in the Stories section. We've done this in the past and was quite impressive and people enjoyed reading them. A great way to get a Battle Report written is to let a couple of observers watch the game first. Then they compare notes, watch the replay and develop a basis for a report. Then you just put in some written details. Try it sometime, it might be your ticket to fame.

See you tonight and (just in case) if I'm not there do not wait for me!(sigh)
Thanks,

Interview with Grrrr - Loophole @ 5:06 pm EST
Broodwar.com has posted an interview with Grrrr, who has been in China recently to promote pro gaming along with some other pro players from korea. Here's a little excerpt I thought was Interesting:

LPL: would you consider having a rematch with SlayerS_'BoxeR'? do you feel confident you can beat him this time?

Grrr: I was not and I am still not prepared to rematch him. The guy is skilled, and he practices 10 hours every day. Because I'm writing a book and other reasons, I can't practice even 2 hours a day. In one or two months, I'll have more time on my own and I'll be at the top of my shape. Then I will be very confident.

    Changes - Agelmar @ 11:17 pm EST
I think we will probably move things over to the new server on the weekend, if all goes well. What this will mean is that we will have much more space, which will allow us to take more maps and replays from the community (you) and put them on the site for others to see. Unfortunately however, it also means an ad. It will not be a popup ad as found on SCLegacy, that much I can guarantee you, but it will be an add on every page (and the little UGO fist). I am learning to live with it, because it will mean that we can offer much more to the community. As such, I would like to ask you, the viewers, to make feedback before we finalize anything. What features would you like to see in the Replays section? In the SCM/SCX (SCUMS) section? It is easy for us to add these things in now, but once we put the scripts into production it will be harder to change. Feel free to discuss the matter in our forums.

Starcraft: The Revival - SpaceDominator @ 10:22 pm EST
I have had in the Stories section for a while a fan fiction which I found very good. It is entitled Starcraft: The Revival by Averx2k1. Here is a little teaser for you:

After the Brood Wars, the Protoss returned to Shakuras to rebuild. Though it would definitely take years to do so, there was no other way. Aiur was the heart and soul of the Protoss race. Without its sturdy foundation, the other Protoss colonies would begin to deteriorate. The Dark Templar, Zeratul, High Templar Artanis and the rebel Terran Marshall James Raynor banded together to rebuild the lives that were stolen away from them by the Zerg. Mengsk’s Empire was not as devastated as Aiur was, though, and things ran smoothly after the wars. Meanwhile, the UED (United Earth Directorate) back on Earth learned of the loss of Admiral DuGalle, Vice Admiral Stukov and the entire UED fleet. This caused widespread panic amongst the people of Earth, who were certain that the Zerg had the upper hand now. And they did. However, Kerrigan mysteriously vanished after the final Brood War battle. Perhaps she had retreated, despite her glorious victory. But why? With this i! n mind, neither the Terrans nor the Protoss let their guard down, because both races had an uneasy premonition that something big was about to happen. This story takes place 2 1/2 years after Brood War ends.

Read the story at this address.

You will be seeing a couple more pieces of lame humor over there as well, including a feature picking on our first week's winners.(A tradition of the Starcraft Fortress Days of August.)

  • Submitted Art- Ever since Starcraft Millennium was created the Submitted Art section has been incomplete. However, that problem is NO MORE! Thanks to Raptor and his piece of art work the section is started. If you have any artwork that you have written please email it in to me at this address, with some information about the picture.

Raptor decided to go all out and give a huge FAQ to his picture as well. You can view his own little personalized page at this address. The picture is entitled Terran Desert Patrol. Not a bad picture at all. =)

Future Updates- Debate of the Month 3, A strategy, and hopefully more submissions from the community to upload. =)
    Thanks,
    SpaceDominator

    A funny story - Hitman @ 7:18 pm EST
Ok, as some/many of you know the IAAF World Championships (track and feild thing) are being held in Edmonton this year. People all around the world are in Edmonton. I happen to live near Edmonton. Yesterday when I was in "The City of Champions" I saw 2 Asain people (Korean I reckon). They where wearing StarCraft T-Shirts (Both with Zerglings on them). Remembering my "Korean" I called them "Babbo's (Thats worse then calling someone a chobo). Anyways these 2 guys finger me! It was classic.

The Terran Confederacy - Raptor @ 1:36 am EST
    Howdy ya'll,
As you may know already, I've been livin' down in the great Southern state of North Carolina. Although born in Boston, Massachusetts, I have become FASCINATED by the Confederacy... A nation that lasted for 5 years, unique to its day and age, with a culture rooted in its agricultural heritage.

What interests me even more is why Blizzard made the initial Terran Dominion controlled by the authority of the Confederacy... What is with the Confederates out there in space? Perhaps a Blizzard story-writer, like  myself, who wanted to glorify the "hick" life-style? Surely you do notice that the Terrans do have a redneck atittude (particularly the Vultures and Marines). It can also be seen in the cut-scenes of original Starcraft... Terrans speaking with a DEFINATE Southern accent.

The fact that Blizzard also made "black" or dark-skinned Terrans shows that they had no intention for racism (see the Amerigo cut scene, there is a black Marine). I myself do NOT like the Confederacy for its racism. I wish I could have a Confederate flag, but I would feel ashamed, since it is in a sense, a symbol of racism. Without its history of slavery, the Confederacy would actually be kind of cool. They vitalized the spirit found in the cowboy mentality... Wild and rebellious.

Perhaps the greatest sign that Blizzard was trying to "hint" at something was that the Confederacy was destroyed in the end of the Terran campaign by REBELS! That's right, the Confederacy, who were suppossed to be the "hot-dogging cowboys," were eventually destroyed by their mirror image. Perhaps this was Blizzard's way of saying that the Condfederacy may have been great in many aspects, but it was still fundamentally flawed...

Personally, I do not think that it was a mere coincidence that Blizzard used the name "Confederate" in Starcraft. Blizzard was trying to make a point about the real-life Confederacy. Sure, the image of the Confederate soldier made Terrans seem "cool," but at the same time, there is a subtle message that Blizzard used in its story-line. The Confederacy, which was corrupted from the bottom up, was bound to collapse. The symbolism may even go deeper... It's all how you percieve the fundamental meaning of "Confederate." A Confederacy, by definition, is a form of alliance or coalition, usually created for a particular purpose. In Starcraft, it was to subjugate the Terran worlds. In real life, it was to break off from the Union and continue the Southern way of life. So perhaps, Blizzard was trying to say that the Southern way of life, the "cowboy" mentality, was the reason for the Confederacy's collapse. Whatever the case, I think you'll still agree that the Confederacy was used in Starcraft for more than just to be "cool."

Thanks for your time. Rather interesting, ain't it? I've made a topic for discussion about this issue in the forums. Let your opinions be heard!

Maps Section Up And Running - FatBoySr @ 8:21 pm EST
It's sweet. I'm finally done reformatting SC:M's SCMs/SCXs section. It is now easier to navigate and a lot more professional (whistles). I divided it into 4 categories, or sections (for now). They are:

Staff Maps Where the STAFF shows off their maps.
Submitted Maps Where the FANS shows off their maps.
Map Reviews You can view map reviews from Staind and Dhavok. I will work on this soon enough.
Archive Section If you have small bandwidth or just don't want any details on the map, you can view ALL the maps here. You can also easily find a zip file that contains all our maps.

I uploaded around 15 maps for now, however, there will be a lot more soon to come. Stay tuned. Also -- you can purchase "101 Ways to Own Agelmar" in a gaming or book store near you, for a easy 1 time payment of $199.95. (:<

GameSpy Top 10 Games of all Time. - Hitman @ 1:12 pm EST
Ok, the top 40 came around and NO Blizzard Game. I think we all knew that Blizzard would be strong in the top 10. Sure enough. In Order:

    9 - StarCraft
Brian Chapman, Microsoft Games: "Age of Empires may be a better balanced, more "real" game, Warcraft may be the original RTS, but I found StarCraft the most interesting and fun. It tells a story, There are characters, and the different races are really different. Also, there is nothing like marching across the map with 16 Siege Tanks, in staggered ranks!"

    6 - Diablo
Michael Moore, Microsoft Games: "I can't stop playing this damn game. They took the best elements from nethack and bards tale and rolled into a package that few gamers can resist."

And the best Blizzard game made...
    3 - WarCraft II
Warren Spector, Ion Storm: "I can't remember another game that had me laughing and sweating, terrified and amused at the same time (and always, always utterly engrossed). The gameplay was rock solid, the artwork terrific and there's more personality in the units at your disposal in Warcraft than in most roleplaying games. Name another RTS you can say THAT about! Zug zug!"
So there you have it! Doom got first btw.

SC:F Days of August- DAY 1 TONIGHT! - SpaceDominator @ 3:16 pm EST
Tonight is Day #1 of the Starcraft Fortress Days Of August competition. The competition is Double Elimination which means you are only eliminated once you hit 2 losses to an adversary.

Time: 9:05 PM EST- At 9:05 PM EST, I want everyone in the channel so I can figure out who will be participating and I can set up a bracket.
9:15 PM- The START time for the competition.
    Channel: Clan SC:M
    Server: US EAST!

    Other Notes-

  • When a game is completed I must know the results immediately. You will whisper SpaceDominator the results with the EXACT score and the winning team. This will make life much easier for me as I can set up the future rounds.

  • Secondly, if you recieve a bye PLEASE be patient for the round to commence so you will get a turn. The games of SC:F shouldn't last more then 20-30 minutes.

  • Third, in the case of a disconnect we will follow a very simple system. If someone disconnects, record the EXACT score of the game at that point. Then we will add those totals to your next complete game to get a final result. I think that's the only fair way to go.

  • Fourth, if at any time of the competition you leave and are not back at the time of the next round, you and your partner will be considered DQed for the rest of the competition.

It should be fun tonight. See you then.

    YEEHAW! - Raptor @ 8:27 pm EST
It has been approximately 6 months since I last submitted a strategy, back at sclegacy. However, the time has come for me to take my return! DON'T MOVE... CHECK OUT THE STRATEGY SECTION!!!

Featured there is one of my greatest writings, THE ART OF WAR. After it was first posted at sclegacy, I was swamped in "fan mail." For an entire week, I would spend 30 minutes each day replying to people begging for cool new strategies or even "previews" of my new strategies that would soon be published. Now of course, I encourage people to write with their questions/comments/suggestions, but then I got a really sick letter from a perverted SCL fan. So please, even if you want to flame my strategies, just keep it clean...

Also new in the strategy section are some popular writings including "ProToss MaGiK!!," "Scourge," "Air-Power," "Zerg Ambushes," and "A Newbie's Guide." I hope you enjoy them!

An additional note: Back at SCL, before the site was overhauled and then the chaos of the 1.08 patch was released, I approximately 50 pages of strategies. Today, while shifting through them, I was depressed at all the build orders I had written; They are basically useless now! I was forced to leave out an 38 pages worth of strategies. In other words, what you are seeing today is just a mere fraction of what I used to have... Build orders used to be a specialty of mine. I used to get my tape recorder (no replays back then) and actually speak to the cassette as I went through building units, etc. That was how I created the famous "Rush Analysis" and also the 47-step Hydra build (which for your information, was later posted up on Blizzardextreme without my permission, and under a different author's name. Of course, I heard about it from some friends, and wrote to Blizzardextreme to remove it... As I compared my strategy to the one posted on their site, I was surprised to find it was identical, down to each "lol" and period and exclamation mark. Needless to say, I never got a reply... Bastards!)

Anyways, I will revisit the "build order" writing. Pieces like my "Lurker Drop" build only need some minor modifications. Then again, by the time I get through fixing all of my strategies, 1.09 will probably be out and screw everything up for me...

Alright, that's it for now. This is the "Grand Opening" many of you have been waiting for. Raptor Strategies, Inc is now fully functional! More strategies will follow shortly (and perhaps even the weekly mini-quizzes I used to have hosted at SCL). Please, sit back, grab a soda, and enjoy my strategies. As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated.

The people at starcraft.org are alive! - Agelmar @ 8:15 pm EST
I never thought I would see the day, but I actually got an email from someone at Starcraft.org! I didn't know that they had real live people there anymore! ^-^ Anyhow, the email was in response to my post two days ago re: them being down, in which I stated that they never post news about any sites other than their own. I got a response from dunchy, which went as follows:

Hey now, we did post about sclegacy getting hacked ^_^.
It's short, but it's a response from a real person! Wow! :-) Anyhow, apparently Starcraft.org is still not back up... will I post about it when it is? Maybe, maybe not... it depends on if they will post about us switching servers :-)(hint hint to anyone from Starcraft.org reading this. *cough* dunchy *cough*)
