Taking on 7 comps - Agelmar @ 8:44 pm EST
BoxeR just took on 7 zerg comps the other day, and won. Whoop de doo. He's now on a bunch of sites, including SCLegacy, but I must say I don't quite understand what the big deal is. Taking on 7 comps is not that hard. I'm not the world's best SC player, as I'm sure Noble and FBS would be quick to point out, but I personally find it easy to take on 7 comps. When all of the spots are filled, the comps dont have a chance to expand all over the place, and gain multiple mains making them powerful. When each comp just has its main and an expansion or two, it is not too hard to take them out. Then you can take over their main, and gain much power for yourself, making it easier to take out the other computers. If you realize that the best defense is a good offense when it's you vs. the world, you will do fine. Anyhow, if you want to watch Boxer's replay, you can get it here on SC:M.

Jowy_Rice Wins MidasKnight's Episode IV Tourney. - Loophole @ 7:58 pm EST
Many Gosu players participated in this tourney, including Rush)_Wizzard, {SG}Hattan, DS-Brave, RainReturns, and {SG}yOsh. Jowy_Rice managed to get by some very good players, and beat {sg}yOsh in the finals. Unfortunately, Jowy was extremely bad mannered in his win. Here is a quote Jupex had from him:

Hella, two fools did the same sh*t to me twice in this tourney, for finals and semi-finals, Rush)_Wizard did the exact same thing twice too, first time was close, second time I rolled him.
=( Too bad. You can view the brackets for the tourny here. Also, go to Jupex to find a bunch of replays from the tourny in their replay database, and if you go to the front page of MidasKnight.com, he has 25 replays zipped up into one file.

Interviews: (orky)Asmodey, [GG1]ElkY@JH, and NgK)ScReaM - Loophole @ 7:45 pm EST
~ZC~Grilla over at Broodwar.com is really starting to kick out the interviews. =) Asmodey seems pretty cool from the interview. ElkY seems pretty cool too. He says straight up in his interview that NTT is sometimes BM. =O I guess NTT probably doesn't really care though. ScReaM just didn't really have much to say.

Interviews: Smuft, Liquid'Nazgul, and {SG}FroZ - Loophole @ 12:24 pm EST
Broodwar.com has posted three interviews with TF-Smuft, Liquid'Nazgul, and {SG}FroZ. Reading the interview of Smuft, he reminds me very much of NTT with his additude towards Starcraft. =/ Nazgul seems cool, and FroZ especially seems like a cool guy. Check em out.

New Layout for Jupex. - Loophole @ 2:45 pm EST
Jupex.com has a new layout going for them. It's a lot cleaner than the old one and much easier to navigate. There are still some bugs to work out with the PHP, and the forums are not accesible right now, but I'm sure they'll get those worked out soon. GW Jupex!

Interview with DS-Testie - Loophole @ 2:09 am EST
I caught up with DS-Testie on BNet and asked him a few questions. Actually the interview was fairly long, and covered some interesting topics. So take a moment to get to know DS-Testie better. Here's an excerpt:

Loop: Would you like to try doing it for a few years, something like Grrrr... has done, just to see what it's like?

Testie: Hmm, well the thing is.. options are sort of closing to get there. There's only like annual tourneys, or tourneys every so often. And when I was younger I didn't care for that. And my KBK id... isn't working. I have the tag but it won't let me in KBK singles! :O

Testie: :'( So I guess my only shot is WCGC.. and I learned Grrrr might be there. ;O

...

Loop: =) I was happy to see Grrrr doing well in the current ongamenet tourny.

Testie: Yeah.. I really respect that guy, he's such a nice pro gamer just like TheMarine. =)

Miss Me? - SpaceDominator @ 9:00 am EST
Hello! It's been way too long, I understand. The tragedies, and the tragedy of tons of HW have been keeping my poor miserable self busy. However, to get everyone a little siked up about the near future, a pair of tournaments will be announced and run. One of them, will most likely be a simple Round Robin based competition, and the other will be a game of deception and intelligence, which 6 players will be involved.

I will be making the announcements of the dates of the competition most likely Wednesday, or Thursday of this week. Be on the lookout!
I will also be returning to run BTS in two weeks. So, be on the lookout for that information soon too.
Thanks a lot,

Galaxy Games Network - Loophole @ 6:47 am EST
Over at SCLegacy I saw that Galaxy Games Network has reopened. While their layout is not exactly original (looks like php nuke), the site is very clean and sharp looking. It really does look sweet. They have some good content to start out. While I was looking around, one of the things that caught my eye was a BNet Slang section. It's a little out of date though. Add gosu, bm, chobo, dt, and heavy metal is thx. I think knowing bnet slang qualifies you as bilingual, and you can put it on your resume. ^^

BobTheNewt's newtdojo.org. - Loophole @ 8:31 pm EST
OMFG. I can only remember laughing this hard once in my life before today. Go take a look at newtdojo.org. Read the articles in the article section written by BobTheNewt. Here's an excerpt:

[Merlin] this is your first and only warning not to use awps
[mIsT@sP@kLe] WTF ILL USE WHATEVER I WANT
[Bob] listen, it's a against the rules, and we are going to have to ban you if you continue to use it

After a little bit, mIsT@sP@kLe gets so annoyed that he leaves. Jumping on the opportunity :

[Bob] mIsT@sP@kLe was banned for using awp, please stop using it so i don't have to ban you as well
[Kamikrazy] woa how did you get rcon
[Bob] i run the server, i own the computer it operates on
[Kamikrazy] are you the net gamer?
[Bob] yes
[Bob] i am the net gamer
While reading the site, FBS informed me that this is the same Bob that created the Bob's Obs maps, which I use regularly.

Share your opinions - Agelmar @ 6:33 pm EST
Please feel free to share your opinions and experiences of today's terrible tragedies with us here at SC:M. We will try to post a good number of your responses. You can either submit your opinions, thoughts, and experiences to me via email, or you can post them in the new board created in our forums, appropriately titled "The American Tragedy."

Let me start off by giving my personal experience. I was in the largest lecture hall on campus at the University at about 8:40AM for a 9:00 lecture. The lecture (about Homer's Illiad) went on until 10:00, after which I went to one of the computing sites to work on my report due Friday over the first few books of the Illiad. At 10:45, I went to my next class (an 11:00 lab for Calc III). About ten minutes in, we get a message from the Dean saying all classes are cancelled. I had just learned that we had been attacked at about 10:45, and at that point, details were sketchy as we were all on campus, and focused on classes not TV. After it was announced that classes had been cancelled, I went home and turned on the TV, wretching at the absolute horror which I saw. I was highly offended by this grevious act against our great Nation, however I was equally offended by some of the remarks I heard coming from friends of mine, many of them highly racist. I urge people to keep their wit to them, and not to give in to hate and prejudice in the face of such horrors. That will only make the matters worse. One of my friends, who shall remain nameless, said the following to me:

As individuals sure they [Arabs] may be nice. As nations they have historically shown themselves not to be nice guys. No generalizations necessary - it is fact.
I was astonished to hear such words of racism and hate coming from someone I thought I knew better. My response to him, and to all of those out there with a similar mindset is as follows. I have a heck of a lot of Arab friends, and I do not know ANY of them to be "not nice" or "terrorists". What the heck does this person, and many others, mean that the Arabs have 'historically shown themselves not to be niceguys'? Who has? Look at Spain - Colombus killed half of the natives with smallpox. He enslaved the Taino after their king gave him a crown as a trade for Colombus's red cape. The king meant it as a trade, Colombus thought thatit meant he was made king of the Taino, and as such he enslaved and irradicated the Taino. The Europeans weren't very nice during the Crusades. The Africans had their bad moments too. The Europeans weren't very nice when they came over to America - heck, there was one incident when, while fighting the natives, an army general went into a hospital and took blankets that were slated for destruction due to their being infested with smallpox. He gave them to the natives, who thanked him for his generous donation. He killed almost the entire group of them off with smallpox (which is not a nice death). Look at what the Europeans did to the Aboriginies when they went to Australia... I say that the Europeans have historically proven themselves to "not to be nice guys". Let's just nuke Europe, but let's not forget that most Americans, and Australians also come from Europe, so let's nuke them for good measure. And let's nuke Asia as well, for look at what the Mongols did, and look at what some of the Chinese dynasties did, and who can forget what Japan did at Pearl Harbor? Heck, let's just nuke all of humanity out of existance, for as a race we have proven not to be nice guys. However, if we do that, we will destroy the entire world and have nothing left. The truth is that this incident could have just as easily been broughten about by some rich South African, or some Chinese person, or some person from the Bronx with a lot of cash. We should not go around making generalized racist statements, rather we should unite as Humans and sorrow over the tragedy comitted not only upon the cities of New York and Washington D.C., not just upon this great Nation, but rather upon humanity as a whole.

That's my $.02.

Not Dead Yet - NobleHelium @ 6:03 pm EST
Reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated. I got home about fifteen minutes ago, and I'm fine. As FBS might know, my high school is 10-15 minutes away from the World Trade Center though...we were fully evacuated at around 10:30. My day was certainly very tiring. I had to walk through half of the length of Manhattan, but we won't talk about that. Today is a day that will go down in history.

So Scary ;\ - FatBoySr @ 5:23 pm EST
I can't express how I feel now. So sickening. I saw the whole thing from across the river (my school is right there). Hope Noble didn't take in that much dust. Thank god my aunt is ok as well... also teaches a lesson -- being lazy and skip a day of work is A-OK! ): So scary... can't even imagine something like this can happen. Bush is useless... Pentagon, our nation's centerpoint for every facility is also destroyed... and he's on vacation. Over and over it goes through my head... I still don't believe it. I have nothing more to say, just my two cents to share. News are below.

Tragedy in our country - Agelmar @ 4:26 pm EST
As an American, I must say that I am greatly disturbed by today's events. Never since Pearl Harbor have we seen devastation on our soil, and perhaps not even then. At Pearl Harbor, the target was a military target, and those who lost their lives were primarily military personnel. Today, a terrorist attack was launched, and the cowards who launched the attack are not even honorable enough to declare their intent, or warn the people so that they might save themselves. Not only this, but they remain shrouded in secrecy, not even taking responsibility for their actions. Today, on American soil, for the first time in many years, thousands of civilian lives have been lost. I am not going to ask for any prayers, because that is what frightens me. We can look and see the source of much of the violence in the Middle-East, where this act of terrorism presumably originated. The violence there is founded upon religious zealousness. As such, I ask for no national prayer, or national stance, simply I ask that everyone reflect on the situation, and say not simply "I am deeply saddened and my prayers go out to those affected", but "I am deeply saddened (insert prayer statement here if you feel like it) and THIS IS WHAT I THINK WE CAN DO TO HELP PREVENT A REOCCURRENCE OF SUCH AN EVENT IN THE FUTURE." Notice the stress on the last part. I feel this is what is truly important - not that we pray to some deity for the sake of those affected, but that we all make an effort to improve the national situation, such that there will never be such a tragic loss of civilian lives due to terrorism, no matter where in the world it might occur.

World Trade Center Destroyed by terrorists. - Loophole @ 3:29 pm EST

The country is in a state of shock this morning after the World Trade Center, the tallest building on the New York City skyline, was destroyed by an apparent, coordinated terrorist attack. Just before 9 am EST, a hijacked plane crashed into the south tower of the building, erupting into falmes, and opening a huge hole in the building. About 20 minutes later, a second hijacked plane smashed into the north tower of the building. Roughly 40,000 people work in the building, and many of those are feared dead after the two towers collapsed, one at a time, in a surreal cloud of smoke and fire, about 2 hours after the crashes. It is not known yet who is responsible for the attacks.

In Washington DC, another hijacked plane crashed into a helicopter landing pad at the Pentegon building, the U.S. defense headquarters. The ensuing explosion collapsed a section of the building, and caught it on fire. The building was evacuated, as were many other public office buildings and national monuments in the area. Good god.

Reasons Not to Play Ladder - FatBoySr @ 12:10 am EST
Loophole and I stumbled upon some wacky things on battle.net just a while ago concerning ladder. It gave me quite a curious thought, in whether it was legit or not. I got bored and checked out the Ladder Rankings screen. The first place ranking player was "AQuA" with a whooping 37-0-0 record. I went back to the main chatting screen on battle.net, still waiting for Loophole and then typed /stats "AQuA", with the results showing INVALID username. I thought I might have spelt it wrong, so I went back to check on the spelling. To my surprise... the number one player's name on the top of the charts was FerragamO. I thought I might have been seeing things or something (considering I psuhed down 3 bottles of booze ;).) Anyway, I continued doing this a few times with curiosity, and took some screenshots as well. Also, I echoed stats on FerragamO, showing 2-0-0 for regular games and 0-0-0 for ladder. I seriously question the ladder's legit. To prove that I'm not bluffing, I took a few screenshots 5 secs apart from eachother.

_Colos interviews Byun - FatBoySr @ 12:00 am EST
_Colos interviewed [z-zone]byun two weeks back and published it today for us to read. With the help of [z-zone]Spunky, the interview was pretty amazing. There were lots of interesting questions including this one that will probably trigger some nerve in SpaceDominator:

"Sort this by priority for playing SC: race , luck , practice , skill and experience

<[z-zone]Byun>

most important = luck
2nd = skills
3rd = practice
4th = experience
5th = race
done

why luck on 1st place?

<[z-zone]Byun> because being a pro gamer everyone's skills are pretty much the same the only thing that separates people from 1st to last is luck in tournaments"

You can read all about it here. It is quite an interesting read and I would recommend it.

Something Worth a Laugh - FatBoySr @ 5:22 pm EST
Well, just like to bring the gloomy school days to some shine... check out this hilarious site called NoMoreAOLCDs.com. It has some hilarious content and a serious theme - to get rid of the annoying, pesky AOL cds. Here's a little incite:

"Make sure that AOL can't send you that CD again - take a moment to scratch it up good. A couple of swipes with a razor blade hoses the data pretty well. However, please DO NOT destroy the CD - we'd really like to keep them in one flat, CD-shaped piece because we have to count and store them ourselves. Also, DO NOT send us CDs that have been broken into bits, cleaning up sharp plastic fragments off the floor is no fun, trust us.

If you are shipping us one or two CDs, you may send them in their little cardboard sleeves. Note that the United States Postal Service (www.usps.gov) will charge you $0.45 to mail a CD this way because it is square. If it was rectangular you would only pay the regular $0.34 first-class letter rate. We assume that there is a perfectly logical reason for this but it's a closely-guarded industry secret. If you don't want to spend the extra 11 cents, scrounge up a 6x9 manila envelope and put the CD in that."

It's worth a look. Check it out and don't forget tomail them your CDs... I just send out a case of 16 AOL cds... going back to AOL 3.0 :D. For those AOL or COL users, don't get offended that your service sucks... we all make mistakes ;).

SCDynasty Ladder - FatBoySr @ 1:34 pm EST
Well, since I'm not getting my new computer parts anytime in the next 48 hours, I might as well work on some news to bring to our loyal viewers (right?) to read.

SCDynasty has just opened up a ladder system for players everywhere. They also have a new layout (unlike us). This league offers 1vs1 between many above average players in the league, teams, and tournaments. Their BW ladder is down for now, but their SC one is still open. There are some bugs with it, but minor ones. For more information on the league, check out their info page. I personally would prefer CyberCraft as a ladder to climb better ;). Your choice.

Debuting Cybercraft - SpaceDominator @ 12:06 am EST
Napoleic from the Starcraft Silo fame, had an announcement that he wanted to make. Since it's hard for someone who doesn't know much to make an announcement, let's go directly to the facts:

This is an announcement of the newest and biggest starcraft league site ever. We have beenworking tirelessly to bring you the best way to play competitive starcraft forfree.

CyberCraft will run on the same system as Cloud Ladder season 1. We have also created a comprehensive map database for use in the ladder which includes approximately 40 maps separated into the 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 categories. For those users who are understandably unfamiliar with some of these maps, there will be a map reviews section which will give you some information about the map and a general guide of how good it is in terms of fun and balance.

But what other features do we have that will set us above other leagues?

We have several unique options available to you. The comprehensive user customisation will make our page as grand or as sparse as you like.

The myriad of statistics kept will include which maps are the most popular, which races are the most popular, percentages of victories a particular race has on each map and in general (in 1v1 only), which teams are the most mannered, which players have the best 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 records, even which teams are the best and worst mannered. We will also be including stats on which teams of races are strongest in general and on particular maps. Finally we will also store stats on individual players.

In addition to all those stats, underconstruction is an excellent replay database (sortable by replay name, score, map, races, and players), a strategy section written by former SCS and SC.Org strat writer [c]Napoleic, and regular news updates.

If all that isn't enough, well, we are currently negotiating with sponsors to provide prizes for top teams, and perhaps for top players in the statistics categories (such as best 1v1 player, best team player, most mannered player, etc). We are also working on several other features, expected to be completed by mid september, which will significantly enhance your CyberCraft experience, as well as raise your expectations of what a ladder should be.

In any case we hope this will be the best ladder experience you have ever had, and encourage you to sign up, or at least check out our site at http:\\cc.starleagues.com

Perhaps we should get a SC:M staff team and a SC:M community team in the league? =)
    Thanks,
    SpaceDominator

WoW Afterall - FatBoySr @ 10:19 am EST
Believe it or not, World of WarCraft it is! Not very pleasing to me sing it's MMORPG, not one I'm ever going to be interested in. Blizzard announced their secret project this morning at European Computer Trade Show. Turns out the really messed up on Blizzard Insider ;P

LONDON, England - September 2, 2001 - During a press conference today at the European Computer Trade Show, Blizzard Entertainment® unveiled World of Warcraft™, a massively multiplayer, online role-playing game set in the rich fiction of Blizzard's Warcraft universe. Featuring bold 3D graphics and deep, immersive gameplay, World of Warcraft will allow thousands of players to adventure together in this epic world and will provide them with a new, in-depth perspective on familiar lands, former battlefields, and heroes from the legendary universe. In addition, World of Warcraft will introduce new, uncharted territories and foes never before seen by followers of the series.

World of Warcraft takes place four years following the aftermath of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos™, where a great tension has settled over the ravaged world of Azeroth. As the various races begin to rebuild their shattered kingdoms, new threats, both ancient and terrifying, have arisen to plague the world once again. Players must explore the lands of Azeroth, forge fellowships with other players, and build their strength in order to prevail.

"World of Warcraft is our largest undertaking to date," stated Mike Morhaime, Blizzard Entertainment president and co-founder. "We are extremely focused on increasing the scope of the Warcraft universe, giving gamers an incredibly dynamic online gaming experience complete with endless possibilities."

An action-packed combat system delivers fast, furious combat against multiple opponents, while minimizing delays between battles to keep players on the move. A rich, evolving story and questing system will keep players engrossed as the world is regularly updated with new content. Fully customizable character classes, innovative races, and thousands of weapons allow for a truly diverse gameplay experience that will appeal to both hard-core and novice gamers alike. A simple, intuitive user interface will allow players of various skill levels to easily join the adventure. World of Warcraft also features support for advanced graphics hardware, giving the player superlative graphical enhancements, as well as a sophisticated, massively multiplayer network architecture capable of supporting thousands of players in a world simultaneously.

With many people being quite disappointed, and many still baffled about the new, I depart now saying "Told ya so" (mainly directed to Loophole and SpaceDominator ;)). You can check out the official WoW here.

    Blizzard's Unnanounced Project. - Loophole @ 8:16 pm EST
Well, everyone is throwing around there theories about what the new game will be, now it's my turn. First, the fact that Blizzard has registered the domain name WorldOfWarcraft.com really means nothing. They registered it a long time ago, and companies often register domain names before they even know if they will do anything with them or not. Blizzard probably has hundreds of domain names registered for things they'll never use. Also, that cheesy picture that was supposedly 'leaked' was pretty poorly done. Blizz would have come up with something a lot more eye catching and a lot more emotion invoking than that. I personally think that the new game will be a Starcraft game and I always have for a few reasons.

    1. A year or two from now would be the perfect time to release the next starcraft game. Any longer than that and Blizz risks gamers loosing interest in the game.
    2. Blizzard has said that the game will not be Starcraft 2, but that was a pretty specific answer. The game could still easily be a starcraft game named something else.
    3. Blizzard has been hyping this game like mad. The pictures on their site have sent the community into a buzz. The only game that could live up to the hype is another starcraft game.
    4. The replay patch in Starcraft. Not easy to do. That would have taken them quite a bit of resources and man time just to develop for an old game. I think that they are creating this new game to be a RTS that will focus on empowering professional gaming with the tools it needs to be succesfull. The replay feature was probably something that had the details worked out for the new game, and then they put it into Starcraft as well because it could be ported easily.
I don't necessarily think the game will be named Starcraft, but it will be a new RTS in the form of Starcraft with features that empower professional gaming. Wait and see. ;-)

There are two different layouts available, based on ORG and Legacy designs. SC.Org forum members need not re-register. I advise you to pay the site a visit.
