Nephatos the Dark Templar - Part 1

Prologue

Nephatos was standing inside the Archives smallest room hoping to find what was left of the personal act of Adun. He didnt expect to find much but when the others laughed at his attempt to find some of the act, he was encouraged by their laughter. Nephatos was one of the youngest Shadows in the camp. He had only heard stories about how Adun saved the Dark Templar from being destroyed, and how he instead insisted on hiding them from the Conclave. Nephatos sighed as he put back the last book in the shelf. Nothing was remaining of Aduns act.

Depressed, he walked out of the room and couldnt miss his image in the mirror. He was short for a Dark One, just about 2,78 but he was still growing. His Warp Blades wasnt that powerful yet but he had much to learn. He continued to walk down the hall, his steps echoing as he walked on the stone floor. His mind was clouded about so much of the Dark Ones history. He thought about the great ones, about Zeratul, Tassadar and Fenix. His eyes narrowed when he thought of Aldaris and the Judicators. He even spit when The Will Of Khala came across his mind. Nephatos shook all the thoughts away and focused on the current position. Praetor Zeratul was planning to arrive to Nephatos camp in about a week or so. Nephatos was longing to see the old leader. He never belivied his ears when he heard of Zeratul and his voyage here.

- "Nephatos, i hope you still can run like you used to because Feramon is telling the Koprulu Story back at the camp."

Nephatos almost fell when he heard a voice in the middle of his thoughts. It was Co'Zel.

- "Yes mighty Co'Zel Naga." Nephatos answered.

Nephatos ran from the Archives to the camp in less than two minutes. He loved stories and The Koprulu Story was one of his favourites. When he ran past the Gateway he didnt see the Probe. With a crash they bumped into each other and both fell down. Nephatos noticed that the Probe's display showed a message which was: "PLASMA SHIELD DAMAGED... NEW DESTINATION... SHIELD BATTERY..." Then the probe suddenly was in the air again and changed direction. Nephatos shook his head and went along, a little bit more carefully this time. He saw Feramon sitting in the Story Pass as usual. The Story Pass was actually two unusual big rocks that linked together in one end. Inside those rocks it was a little space, ideal for story telling. Feramon was one of the oldest Shadows in the camp and he was also the leader.

Nephatos slowed down and started to walk the last 20 meters. To run in front of the camp leader was not respectable. A Dark One was only allowed to run in combat.

Feramon nodded at Nephatos direction when he saw him. Nephatos sat down just beside his friend Yphe. It was obvious that Feramon had made a break in the story because Nephatos arrival and Yphe gave a harsh glare towards Nephatos.

"... And Tassadar fought with his mind." Feramon continued. "Did he actually wanted to destroy Mar Sara? His heart said no, but the Conclave wanted it. He finally decided to not destroy the terran colony. He turned his ship Gantrithor and left the planet untouched."

The children awed in front of Feramon. Nephatos had already heard about heroic Tassadar and he wasnt that suprised over the end. When the children stood up and started to walk home, Feramon stopped Nephatos.

- "You are not going anywhere Nephatos" Feramon said.

- "As you will Feramon of Du'nar." Nephatos answered.

Feramon was the leader of the camp and it was only right to tell him with the camp name.

- "Dark Praetor Zeratul is close at hand, Nephatos, and when he arrive he is likely going to speak to the leader of the camp. Du'nar is a very small encampment but Zeratul have to visit all of the 42 Dark camps. Every leader must know about the... war." Feramon said.

Nephatos was filled with excitement when Feramon uttered the last word. He had never seen a war before.

Feramon saw the young Shadow's reaction and smiled. But his eyes was not smiling.

"Nephatos," He started. "Zeratul's voyage from camp to camp is actually a preparation for war. He is collecting warriors for his Shadow Army. I do not want you to say this to any other Shadow. But you possess the strongest Xel'Naga spirit except mine and you must council Co'Zel and ask him which warriors that are ready for war. Then i want you to walk around in the camp and gather all the warriors which is ready and meet me here at the Story Pass with all the warriors in one week. I'll be waiting here around midnight. Now go and council Co'Zel." Feramon said.

Feramon rose up from his place and started to walk towards the camp. But suddenly he turned around and looked at Nephatos and said: "Be ready for the war, Nephatos" He showed his Warp Blades. They were the biggest and the most powerful in the camp. Feramon got something of a fanatic look in his eyes before he turned around once more and walked back to the camp. His 328 years in life didnt leave a sign when he walked.

Nephatos stood at the same place, still awed over the honor Feramon just had given him. And it was true that Co'Zel was the most powerful Xel'Naga spirit except Feramons Spirit. Feramon possessed Ga'Lea, one of Aduns ancestors.

Every Shadow possess a Xel'Naga spirit inside him. When the Protoss race was born by Xel'Naga their honor went to high and at the end the Protoss slaughtered the Xel'Naga. Many Xel'Naga was executed but some of them managed to get away with shuttles. Now, many thousands year later they inhabit every Dark Templar.

Nephatos tried to focus his thoughts on Co'Zel and the spirit inside him. Suddenly he became aware of a awesome presence inside his head. Co'Zel was present.

- "Nephatos. Why have you called me here?"

- "Zeratul is preparing a war." Nephatos said.

- "I know he is, Nephatos. And i also know that Feramon, or rather Ga'Lea, have selected me to choose the warriors that will represent Du'nar in the war against the Zerg.

Nephatos was suddenly filled with fury when he heard that the Zerg was their enemy.

- "I want you to sleep now Nephatos. Tomorrow we will choose the warriors." Co'Zel said.

- "As you will mighty Co'Zel Naga." Nephatos answered.

Nephatos decided to sleep in the Story Pass this night.

--------------------------------------1------------------------------------

Nephatos awoke quite early and he looked up to the sky, where Korfahl smiled down to him. Korfahl was the moon that continued to shine even in daytime.

Nephatos tried to summon Co'Zel in his mind and soon his glowing appearance showed in Nephatos mind.

- "Slept well Nephatos?" He said.

- "Yes mighty Co'Zel Naga." Nephatos answered.

- "Are you ready to gather the warriors?"

- "Yes mighty Co'Zel Naga."

- "Why are you standing here, then?" Co'Zel said with a undertone of amusement in his voice.

Nephatos stood up and wasnt sure what to do. It was Co'Zel who knew which warriors to choose.

But after a couple of days, choosing the warriors the group was ready. It consisted of 6 Shadows including Nephatos himself. Beside from Nephatos it was Yphe,Seraton,Lephron,Chrono and To'chan.

No one had seen Feramon for that whole week. Nephatos became a little bit nervous. What if Feramon didnt show up at the meeting? It was only one day left. He saw Yphe approaching.

- "En Taro Adun, Nephatos." He said.

- "Greetings."

- "Look. My Warp Blades have grown under this night." With those words he held up his Warp Blades. They were bigger than Nephatos but Yphe had always been stronger than him.

- "I defeated Lephron just a hour ago." Yphe boasted.

- "Did you hurt him badly?"

- "No, but I dried his plasma shield in less than 4 hits. He is at the Shield Battery right now, recharging." Yphe said with a cruel smile.

- "Tonight is the meeting with Feramon, Yphe. Make sure that you make it to the Story Pass at midnight." Nephatos said and rose up to leave.

- "En Taro Zeratul, Yphe"

He started to walk towards the Templar Archives. The Archives was located a bit away from rest of the camp. It lied on a cliff, and Nephatos was forced to walk upwards in a almost 35 degree angle to reach the building. But the view from the top of the cliff was astounding. He could easily see the whole camp from the top. He saw the swarm of probes gathering minerals from the big shining stones and bringing them back to the glorious Nexus. The Nexus was the largest building in the camp and it was golden, with the purple semicolors. It was very beautiful seen from higher ground. Nephatos let his eyes pass the Nexus and fixed his look on the Gateway. It had been his home for some years, training him to be what he was. A Dark Templar. A Dark One. A Shadow. An Outcast. He continued to let his eyes focus on the various buildings. The Citadel, the Cybernetic building and the Forge. He liked the Manager for the forge, Seraton. Seraton was very skilled in the knowledge of weapons and the art of war. When Seraton entered the field of battle, the Zerg better watch out, he thought.

Nephatos turned around and walked into the Archives. He wasnt alone. He could feel it. His eyes narrowed and he felt that something in here wasnt regular. Suddenly he heard a big crash from behind him, and soon after that a stream of different curses.

- "Khaz Nara Gah!" Chrono shouted from somewhere under the pile of books, he just had tipped over.

- "Chrono! You scared the wits out of me! Rise you maggot!" Nephatos laughed.

- "Nephatos!" Chrono said and his face became visible. It was easy to see that Chrono was the youngest of all Shadows in the camp.

- "What are you doing here? Arent you supposed to be training at the Gateway?" Nephatos asked.

- "Yes, but..." He started.

- "No buts. You arent done with your training. How many points did the Teacher give your Warp Blades?" Nephatos asked.

- "32, but that is not..."

- "32? Go back to the Gateway and dont come back until you have at least 45."

- "I know 45 is standard but.."

- "Go!"

- "Okay."

Chrono rose and walked out of the pile of books. Then he ran out of the Archives.

Nephatos remembered when he was skipping training once. The Teacher had been really angry. Nephatos had made it up to him by training three weeks extra and also been given extra points. His Warp Blades was worthy of 60 points and he was very proud of it.

I wonder what Zeratul's Warp Blades were worth, Nephatos thought. He shooked his thoughts away and started to look for the book containing information about the Dark Praetor.

He found a book and sat down to read.

"Zeratul lifted his hand high and gave the signal to Fenix and Tassadar to attack. It was time to destroy the Heart of the Conclave. Fenix had been resurrected as a dragoon and his powerful phase disruptor launched big projectiles, laying waste to the three Zealots engaging him. While Fenix and his Dragoon strike force launched a frontal assault against the conclave main base, Dark Praetor Zeratul led a Assassin force with four Dark Templar to the Nexus and started to slaughter the probes. Tassadar was adding Fenix strike force with his psionic storms and his powerful Psi Assault. But after the base was in ruins Tassadar cried out: "Aldaris! This madness must stop! The sight of our brethren, slaughtering each other is more than i can take. I submit myself to the Conclaves judgement. But know this... You will...:"

Nephatos stopped reading. It was soon midnight. The meeting would take place in less than one hour. He put away the book and walked out.

When Nephatos came to the Story Pass all selected warriors were esembled. To'Chan,Yphe,Chrono,Lephron and Seraton were there. But where was Feramon?

Suddenly the very air in front of them was moving. They saw that something was on its way to warp in. It looked like bubbles made out of clean air. The bubble expanded and started to materialize. It was Feramon that came. Before any of the Dark Ones had a chance to ask any questions, a bubble was taking form again. It took the form of a Dark Templar. That was clear. But this templar looked old, wise and had something of an Aura surrounding him. His eyes was narrowed and his Warp Blades was enormous and seemed very powerful.

- "Zeratul!" Nephatos cried.

- "Yes, Nephatos. It is i."

Nephatos looked a little bit closer on the famous Dark Praetor, leader of the Dark Templar. Zeratul was pale. Not pale as in frightened, rather as in wizdom and age. His eyes, however, did not show any signs on age. They were bright shining with intelligence and Nephatos thought he saw a hate somewhere in Zeratul's eyes.

- "Nephatos. I dont think the Dark Praetor want you staring so immensly at him." Feramon suddenly said.

- "Thank you Feramon." Zeratul said.

- "Now. I want you all to listen up." He continued. "There is a war going on in this solar system. The Zerg is moving fast and their target is us. We must stand up to them! I want to know if you are ready for war."

As a answer all the Shadows rose their Warp Blades.

- "Good. I have visited all the Shadow Camps. And Du'nar is the last one. We must go on. Its time to fight back!" Zeratul said.

Zeratul rose his left hand and suddenly two Shuttles warped in.

- "Go." He said.

The Shadows walked in to the Shuttles.

Nephatos sat at a window and he saw the camp of Du'nar getting smaller as the Shuttles lifted off. It was time for war.

Here does the part 1 of "Nephatos the Dark Templar" end. In the following part Nephatos and the other Shadows will fight for the honor of the Dark Templar against the Zerg.
