Units
Basic rundown:
The Zerg are said by many to be the most powerful race
because of their speed and large numbers. Because the Zerg have such weak units,
they have to prevail in numbers. Early games are where the Zerg truly shine, and
they can really show the enemy that rushing is something to look out for. In the
later game the Zerg will have air units, another one of their strong points. Playing
the Zerg requires little skill, but mastering them is something different. Master
Zerg players are always the hardest challenges.
Units:
| Unit Name |
Minerals - Gas - Food |
Unit Description |
Drone
 |
50 - 0 - 1 |
Drones are the backbone of the zerg economy. Not only do they mine minerals and gas, but they are needed for morphing into new buildings. For every building you make you need a drone. Like the Terran's SCV's, you'll need about 2 per mineral field and 3-4 per vespene geyser.
|
Zergling
 |
50 - 0 - 1 |
Zerglings are the basic Zerg ground unit. They are great for rushing, because you get 2 zerglings for 50 minerals and you can build them really quickly. When fully upgraded later in the game, they can be deadly in great numbers. |
Hydralisk
 |
75 - 25 - 1 |
Hydralisk's can be considered the Zerg's best unit. Not only are they really cheap and take up only 1 supply, but they can attack both air and ground with a fast and fairly strong attack. They work wonders in numbers of 12 or more. They are also very low up the tech tree for the Zerg so they are also a great rushing unit. They are also great units throughout the game. |
Overlord
 |
100 - 0 - +8 |
Overlords are the heart of the Zerg. They are the Zerg's supply depots, they fly, they are detectors, they can scout, they are also the Zerg's transports once upgraded. They are slow to start off but once upgraded they can become quite fast. They are also really cheap at only 100 minerals. |
Mutalisk
 |
100 -
100 -
2 |
Mutalisk's are the Zerg's weakest air unit. They have no special abilities and they aren't very strong but they are still a great unit. They don't take very long to get to on the tech tree, and they are also very cheap, don't take very long to build, and are fast. They are great rush units and great in numbers. |
Guardian
 |
50 -
100 -
2 |
Guardians are the Zerg's later game air unit. They can only attack the ground but they have a really long range. Their attack is also quite powerful once upgraded. Work wonders in killing defenses in numbers with Mutalisks. However, they require you morph a Mutalisk into one at the price of 50 minerals and 100 gas, and they require you have a Greater Spire. |
Queen
 |
100 - 150 - 2 |
Queen's are the Zerg's air unit spellcaster. They have 3 useful spells and one special ability. Their first spell, Parasite, can be casted on an enemy to give you sight range on that unit and see what they are doing for the cost of 75 mana. Their second spell, Ensnare, can slow down a unit by a lot or if cast on a cloaked unit it will let you see that unit also at the cost of 75 mana. Their last spell turns any one non-mechanical ground unit into 2 Broodlings. The Broodlings aren't very powerful but still you can kill almost any unit for 150 mana. And their special ability allows them to take over a severly damaged Command Center to create Infested Terrans. More about them below. |
Defiler
 |
50 - 150 - 2 |
Defiler's are the Zerg's ground unit spellcaster. They have two spells and one special ability. It's ability, Consume, allowes it to eat(kill) another of your Zerg units and get 50 mana. It's spell Plaque, can be casted on units and buildings for an extreme amount of damage to their hp. Does not do anything to shields however. It's other spell, Dark Swarm, casts around a rather large ground area and any ground units inside of it are not hurt by attacks coming from outside of the Dark Swarm. The Defiler however is very high up the tech tree and is not used very often. |
Scourge
 |
25 -
75 -
1 |
Scourge are Zerg kamakazi air units. They are really cheap and you can get them at the same time as Mutalisks, and you get two of them in one egg. They kamakazi into an air unit for extreme damage. |
Broodling

Broodlings are created when a Queen casts Spawn Broodling on any non-mechanical ground unit. You get two of them for one cast, they both have 30 hp, do 4 damage, and have a short life span energy bar. |
Infested Terran
 |
100 -
50 -
1 |
The Infested Terran is created at an Infested Command Center created by a Queen. You must infest the Command Center when it is severly damaged. Due to these extremly uncommon circumstances, the Infested Terran is most likley the least used unit in the game. However, if gotten, they can be dangerous. They are cheap, and they can kamakazi into a ground units or buildings for a whopping 500 damage plus splash damage. |
Ultralisk
 |

Ultralisk's are the Zerg's power ground unit. At the cost of 200 minerals and 200 gas they can take up a lot of resources. They also take up 6 supply which can be a hassle. They have 400 hp, very good armor, ok speed, and a good attack once upgraded fully at the Evolution Chamber. |
