| Interview with DS-Testie
DS-Testie: Nick Perentesis / 16 / Male wanting to be female (j/k) / Huntsville, Ontario, Canada. Loop: ;) Testie: %_% Loop: So, how did you first get into Starcraft? Did you have friends that played, or did you just hear about it and pick it up? Testie: I got into Starcraft through my brother and I've been a gamer all my life. He bought the CD and we played LAN for a long time. Loop: Is your brother any good? Testie: He used to be amazing, but he quit and moved to Q3 before BW came out. Loop: Ah. What did you start playing video games on? Testie: When I was 3 or 4 years old I picked up a Nintendo controller. :) Since then it's sorta been a natural ability to be really good at every game I play. ^_^! Loop: Cool. =) Did you play War2 at all? Testie: Yeah, me and my brother held the #1 / #2 spots on Cases Ladder for a while as King_Arthur / Sir_Galahad. Loop: Wow, that's impressive. What does DS stand for? Can you tell me a little bit about it? Testie: DS- stands for something cute. ;) Drunken Sluts. Loop: lol. Who are the sluts, and how long have you guys been in DS? ;) Testie: LoL. We're all sluts. ;) And I've been in DS- for 3 years... I was the creator of it with a couple friends. Fear / Evil / Snow.. I booted them out though cause their skills fell. Sorta mean, but.. :) Snow is still in though.. ;) Loop: I can understand wanting your members to represent DS with top level skills. Testie: hehe indeed.. of course there were other reasons, like they were becoming BM... etc.. Loop: How many people are in DS, and who are some of the best? Also, do you guys have a web page where people can get info on you? Testie: Hmm, currently there's: DS-Testie, DS-Snow, DS-Slayer, DS-Brave, DS-Radu, and last but not least DS-Brave. The best members? After myself, I can't really say. They are all extremely good.. and would have to fight for their own ranks. DS- does not have a site currently. Testie: Oops. I said Brave twice! ^_^ -.-v Loop: I guess he's good. ^^ Testie: lol indeed ;) Loop: Who do you like hanging with on bnet other than your clan mates? Testie: Well, on East... Oaral, Corbalt, Tsunami, Rekrul, (though he's a pain to have around!!) ^_^ and Drone or Eri. There's more but I can't really name em all.. I like a lot of players. ;) Loop: I read something Corbalt wrote about wanting to quit BW. He still plays? Testie: Oh no, that was Corbalt saying he was quitting BW and coming back when KBK started. He was really angry with where the BW community was going and with myself. ;) He definitely still plays now.. though not too much. Loop: Yeah, I saw that too. You guys have cleared things up though? Testie: Yeah, I dunno, I always liked him and didn't know he felt that way about me back then. I guess I'm stupider then I thought ^_^! Loop: Well, not always easy to see someones feelings through a bnet screen. =) I notice that you hang out in channel Clan X17 sometimes. What's your general opinion of the channel and the people that hang out in it? Testie: Hmm, I know there's mannered players there that don't deserve this, but I don't play anyone from there really. I really dislike the channel and would rather have it back to the old days when it only had 10 people in it.. me / goz / xcaly / grrrr :) But.. Loop: Yeah, it seems when a chan gets popular on bnet it tends to draw a lot of BM players. Testie: It's not the nicest of channels.. a lot of the players there.. I mean a LOT :) are liars / name spoofers / **** talkers, etc... that's why me / tsun and them hang in a diff chan.. but someone spammed it and now we have to move again. :'( Loop: Too bad. =( Testie: I'm really disgusted that I see my name get spoofed so much. I was talking to a guy just a minute ago about how he played me when I was sitting in a channel. :'( Loop: What upsets me more about name spoofing is that people are so quick to believe spoofers without checking. Testie: Both.. and that people blatantly post replays / go around doing that when it isn't even me playing. It happens to a lot of people though. But I'm targeted for a lot of things. :'( Loop: I think most people figure out when reps are spoofs though. Loop: A lot of people consider you one of the best players on bnet, if not the best. What did you do to get to the level of play that you are at now? Was there anyone who helped you improve, like a mentor, or was it just practice? Testie: Hmmm, there's a jumble of things that lead into who I am / how I play. One being that I've been playing games all my life and have been great at every game I've touched. Another being how much time I spend playing which is a really sick amount.. let's just say I think if anyone's played this game the most in the world, it's me. Testie: I never had a mentor.. and I didn't really learn much from anyone.. sure there's a couple tricks you pick up along the way, but nothing overall special. ;) Testie: Such tricks like Defiler / Swarm / Lurker I learned from Tsun and.. well he taught me to really appreciate it. ;) Loop: Do you think it's better to play people who are better than you to improve, or people that are at your level of play? Testie: Well the thing is.. I get messaged a lot to play and well the better people sorta don't like to play the others.. and you can't answer everyones request. I think it'd be best if people stuck to each other around their level. ;) Loop: Better people don't want to play other gosu players? I would think that's where the fun would be. Testie: No no, they don't want to play the lower skilled players. The random players they've never heard of.. ;) Loop: Ah. I misunderstood. Testie: Well I'm an idiot who might word things stupidly. ;) hehe. Loop: Too hard on yourself. =) What other interests do you have outside of Starcraft? Testie: Interests outside of Starcraft? You mean there's a world outside of Starcraft? Loop: lol Testie: =P Loop: I haven't checked in a while, but I think so. ^^ Testie: What is this place you call.. outside of Starcraft.. it intrigues me.. maybe I shall visit it. ;) lol Loop: lol. What kind of mouse and keybpard do you use? What's your gaming machine? I've always wonderd if the people at the top level are very picky about their equipment. Testie: Hmm, I'm seriously not trying to give props to myself.. but my keyboard.. is this old clickity click keyboard that is like AMBRA or something. ;P really old. :P Loop: lol Testie: My mouse is a logitech mouse that... well let's say it's a fighter! :O (it fights me) hehe.. ;) But I've grown used to it, it doesn't matter.. I've had my mouse for like 4 years and I like it.. even if it gets stuck here and there. ;P Loop: Maybe a nice mouse and keyboard (like $40?) would help you take it to the next level. ;) Testie: Hmm, I don't think there is another level. ;P ^_^ Loop: lol Testie: keke -.-v Loop: Do you know what you want to do for a living? Are you considering becoming a pro gamer? Have you played games with any high profile pro gamers to gauge whether or not you could do well in pro gaming? Testie: Oh I've definitely played with other pro gamers.. and I know I could become one, but I never saw it as a living. More like a side quest. :P For a living I'm thinking a lawyer, a psychologist, or something like that. Testie: And I've played many pro gamers. ;P Ring / Grrrr / V-Gundam etc... Loop: Would you like to try doing it for a few years, something like Grrrr... has done, just to see what it's like? Testie: Hmm, well the thing is.. options are sort of closing to get there. There's only like annual tourneys, or tourneys every so often. And when I was younger I didn't care for that. And my KBK id... isn't working. I have the tag but it won't let me in KBK singles! :O Testie: :'( So I guess my only shot is WCGC.. and I learned Grrrr might be there. ;O Loop: Hmm. How long has it not been working? Maybe you can contact them about it. Testie: It hasn't been working for a week. ;P (since I got it) :P Testie: =) Loop: =) I was happy to see Grrrr doing well in the current ongamenet tourny. Testie: Yeah.. I really respect that guy, he's such a nice pro gamer just like TheMarine. =) Loop: What do your parents think of Starcraft? Do they know you are a big name player? Have they encouraged/discouraged you in it? Testie: 100% discouragement. :) And yeah they know. ; Loop: I remember reading this far side comic a while ago, showing the classifieds of a news paper, saying, "Wanted: Super Mario player, 50K/Yr," and the caption, "a parents dream." Testie: lol :) Loop: Do your parents know you could make money doing it? Testie: Yeah, but they'd never drive me to a tournament.. or give me $ to go to one. :) And they wouldn't give me their CC #. Loop: Heh, that's not so unusual. ^^ Testie: so I could compete in KBK for the first year. Loop: Oh. Testie: This year I got people to pay for me. ;) Loop: Cool. Do you have a girlfriend? Testie: Not anymore. ;) Loop: Sorry to hear. Are you driving yet? Testie: Also no. ;) Loop: If you were, what kind of ride would you want? Testie: Cool questions by the way. ;) haha this is a different kind of interview. ;) Loop: Thanks. ^^ Testie: Hmm, I've always wanted a Lambourghini. ;) Or a McLaren F1, or just a crazy limo. :P But realistically... I'd be driving a silver Chevy Malibou. ;P Loop: Ah. I remember watching Rain Man and in the first scene they show all these Countachs. Sweet car. =) So are you anticipating War3 at all? Testie: Definitely. Loop: How good do you think it will have to be to put Starcraft and it's "will-not-die" community down for good. Testie: Hmm.. I don't know. Blizzard succeeded and keeps pulling people away.. I've started from so many games.. to hear people say that it will not die.. and of course it never does die.. But the # of people totally falls. Totally. ;P It drops so considerably it's not even funny. :) I don't know, it will be pretty good. Blizzard is good at feeding us games for their marketing purposes. ;) Loop: True. hehe. Testie: But BW won't die.. just the ones who love it most and are stuck / glued here will stay. =) Loop: Cool. Kinda like Subspace. Have you talked to Grrrr much about Epsilon Conflict? Testie: Not at all.. The last we talked about was him just testing strats to put into a book and I helped him test some. Loop: Oh. I heard he was writing a book, but I didn't know it was going to be a gaming book. Testie: Well I'm not sure either. He may be doing many books, who knows. ;) lol Loop: =) Almost done I think. DS-Testie: Well as you may know I'm a random player.. and personally I think I'm equal with all. Favorite race to play though is definitely Zerg.. always the most exciting games come when you're Zerg. =) Loop: Ah, one of the "squishy" races. ^^ Testie: LoL! :) Squishy? :) Loop: Heh, the sounds they make, like marines. Testie: rofl Loop: Protoss die tragically. =) Testie: LoL true. Loop: Last question, Coke or Pepsi? Testie: Oh man... Don't get me started on this. ;P Loop: Come on, the world wants to know. Testie: I don't drink pop. But when I did drink pop... Pepsi has its advantages, so does coke.. but when you need a coke.. you need a coke. Testie: IT'S COKE! Testie: ! Loop: lol!
