Mental Strategies

Part

Part one of the Mental Strategies Series:

Title: Those First Moments...

Anybody who is ready to do something in life that will happen in the future is anxious for everything to happen in an instant. However, people need to understand that those first moments before anything you do in life are the most important moments in anything. Why do I say this you ask? Well, the beginning of anything is like beginning to eat a freshly ripe Apple that is sitting in front of you. You taste the sweet morsels of Apple, and you may want more. However, nothing is more memorable than the first time you started to eat that apple. What does this have to do with games? Well first joining a game is a privilege that a Gaming Company gave to you, because you spent money to buy a game. Take the time at the beginning of a game to say "Hello", and be kind to people at all times. I say this because the nicer you are to a human being the more fun you will have playing a game of Starcraft. Friendships are constructed in this very as well. Making friends is the most important asset in life. Without friends, you will never get anywhere in life. Let us take an example now of an experience that I had that was extremely stupid in the game of Starcraft. During the Starcraft Beta, I joined a game that was a Use Map Settings Map because the game name was "Join now" and the Map name looked pleasing. However, when I got into the game to my surprise I had a Zerg Hatchery and the other guy had 75 Siege Tanks w/Siege Mode surrounding it. Now common sense would tell you that the Hatchery was dead. That is exactly what happened and in the beta. It costed me a loss. That stung, it hurt. I still do not understand why people would do things like that. However now I understand. The guy was too concerned about winning a game, a measly game that means absolutely NOTHING in anything. I bet that guy who made that one map has nothing else really going for him. He probably still is attempting to create maps to do damage to people's records. Here are some tips for how to handle yourself early in a game, so you can grasp the true purpose of the First Moments of a game:

Talk with the People in A Game: Talking with people is the best way to make friends in life, and make friends on the Internet. If you talk to people over the Internet do not go in there and be plain out rude. Listen to everyone talk, add what you need to say. You will form wonderful new friendships you will find yourself one level up in the community.

Have the Mentality That You Are Going To Have Fun: The Point to buying a game is for entertainment and what you should be thinking when you play a game of Starcraft or any game in that manner is: "I have come into this game to have fun playing with other people on the internet. This should be more fun than playing Single Player when I do not react or speak with other people."

Limit the Swearing: You know what I really hate when I go into a Game. I go into a game of Starcraft coming into play a nice peaceful game and a guy says when I make a mistake "You fucking bitch, why the hell did you not have a fucking defense!" GOD! No one is perfect in life, the reason I might not have had that "fucking Defense" is because people might not UNDERSTAND how to do it. Try teaching them about things in the game that YOU Know! Here's a way to put it into another perspective. Say your a Teacher at a Elementary School would you go up to a 6 year old who is trying to do math and say "You stupid fucking kid, do the damn math now! If the answer is Yes, NEVER go into teaching (hehe), but seriously wouldn't you try to help the kid whose trying to learn the math? If you did that the kid would be happy and you would sure feel better. In Battlezone, a common thing to do is say "Damn" when you die. Hey, it is natural! I do it too! However, do not try to make other people feel pathetic because they are new to a game! It wills not make you feel any better, and it sure will not make the person learning feel good! Think about that!

COOPERATE! I cannot stress how important this is, especially when you are working as a team! You need to work together with each other so you can accomplish a goal. Defeat YOUR opponent. If it is a 1v1, cooperate with each other, by not SWEARING at each other for cheating. TRUST me that would be so annoying!

Now, this might have sounded like a lecture and it was supposed to. This is not the Article that will talk about the game, but this is talking about YOU getting into a game, and grabbing those first important moments. Would you take that Apple and throw it into the trash? Alternatively, will you eat the delicious apple and taste the juices trickling down your throat. Trust me, taking the Apple is like Taking opportunities in life by the throat.
