Mental Strategy:
Title: How To Prepare For Battle.Net
A town meeting. A business meeting. A presidential cabinet meeting. A
Parent-Teacher Conference. All things that should be related to a meeting place on the
Internet. However, Battle.Net is a ton more then this. Battle.Net is a place where
everyone goes on there to do something of their own. Some of them may go off to play
games, others may be trying to recruit members into clans, while even others may be trying
to hold a tournament or something special out there(Beat the Staff as an example).
However, Battle.Net is a hectic place it's not the calmest place but what do you expect
with over 10,000 people a day on there? This mental strategy will go into detail about how
you should prepare for the frustrations bound to come with Battle.Net. I've experienced
them, you've experienced them, just about anyone in the SC community has experienced this.
Now, it's time to detail some etticate and some things about Battle.Net.
Battle.Net is in my opinion where the true Starcraft Community hangs
out.(No offense to any one who works at SC webpages, and plays on Kali and all of those
other gaming services.). I'm talking about the visitors that would commonly visit a page
like us or Starcraft Legacy as an example. Now, what you need to do is get in good with
this people. Mentally some of them may seem a little bit strange but they all are normal
people at heart(remember this!!!). If you get angry with a person leave the channel! If
your arguing about something worthwhile stay and finish out the argument it will be
worthwhile to the people in there unless they say "Shut up" and all of the
common aftermaths of insults. =)
However, the annoying things about Battle.Net come into it's techincal
stages. You'll see Server Splits, you may not be able to connect, you may need to do some
interesting things to get onto Battle.Net. It will get very annoying!! To keep mentally
stable in this i'd bring a book along with you to read while you wait for the thing to
intialize. The other possibility is to wait until 2:00 PM EDT, but then you'll be running
into a crowd of foreigners from the other side of the globe. Server Splits are especially
annoying. Let's figure out the definition of a server split by using http://www.dictionary.com. Shall we?
a computer that provides client stations with access to files and printers as shared
resources to a computer network= server
Divided so as to be done or executed part at one time or price and part at another time or
price; -- said of an order, sale, etc. =split
In other words you have a computer who has access to a bunch of people has split into two
sections with half of them seeing half of the server, and the people and the others on the
other side of the spectrum. This causes headaches throughout the community. Remain calm.
If it gets too annoying for you, forget about it and play some Fifa 99, or some High Heat
Baseball. I don't know. You'll find something! The point is, don't get mad! If you do your
first game of Starcraft once you get on will be a loss(75% of the time). It's a guarantee
that I'm sure you'll be very angry at the computer for doing this to you. There is
something that you can always do to guarantee that you and your friend will play a game of
SC. You can either start a game, and hope that the guy joins or you can tell him through
an exterior communication source(ICQ, EGN.. whatever). Then begin a game and have him
join. You can then discuss whatever you need to discuss, because splits don't occur in a
game of Starcraft. They occur on Battle.Net's main frame. So be prepared for those types
of things.
So in conclusion, be happy with Battle.Net, it's trying to do it's job but there are a
ton of people out there who are trying to get the same thing going as you. A little
patience goes a long way.
