Mental Strategy:

Title: Mentally Preparing For A Capture The Flag Game

Have any of you ever played a Capture The Flag game in Starcraft? I doubt it. If so, I'm honestly very surprised due to the fact that Capture the Flag is just as popular as Greed and Slaughter. In other words, NO ONE PLAYS IT! =( This is wrong. I hope to introduce to the community some points on why you should be playing Capture The Flag, and how to mentally prepare for a game of Capture The Flag. It may not seem so bad or stupid after reading this.. that's my goal of course. Enjoy..

Capture The Flag. You ever play the game outside with two flags and paintball guns? Well, neither have I, but hey I've heard it's a blast. You ever try lazer tag? That's capture the flag in it's own variations(depends on what variation and which place you went). Anyways, in Starcraft the objective is very simple. Take the opponent's flag and bring it to your own base. However, is it really that simple? No. The reason simply being that you need an SCV, Probe, or Drone to take the flag. Oooh, sweet strategies of the East. There are a few ways that you could get into an opponent's base and capture the flag, but i'll leave that for my other strategy guide. Besides that wouldn't be too mental would it?

Mentally in a Capture The Flag Game you need to understand that a defense and an offense are both needed for success. You need the defense to protect your flag, and you need the offense to capture your opponent's flag. Complicated sounding huh? Well, if you think about it a little it's not that easy. Each player at the beginning of the game has the opportunity of moving their Flag Beacon from it's current location to a new location. Beware though, you only get one opportunity to do this! A common strategy is to put the flag beacon behind a large defense of cannons, colonies or bunkers so your opponent can not get access to them. Another common strategy I've seen is to put the flag beacon towards the way end of your base so they cannot access it very easily. However, there is something that you always need to be aware of when playing Capture the Flag. You see placing your flag beacon in it's strategical place is up to you, so think before you do, ok?

Capture the Flag has one strategy which can be done very easily and successfully and will win a person a game in a snap if your not prepared for it. Try an SCV/Drone/Probe Drop on for size! If you kept your Flag Beacon in the open you will be subject to a simple drop and recovery effort. It's very easy to do, if the situation is just right. If there is a sizable defense then of course don't attempt it! Common Sense says that! Use this drop only if everything seems perfect and there is a 90-100% chance of success. You could also just use your normal Starcraft Strategies but you need to base them on protection of your flag and capturing your opponents flag. What a game! Where's the strategy you ask?

Strategy in Capture The Flag is a totally different thought then from the original game of Starcaft(or a melee). You see if you defend your flag properly and attack at the appropriate times you will be in good shape in CTF. However, if you don't, you won't. Simple and Easy.

So In Conclusion, Capture the Flag is a ton of fun and you should definatly try it out today.
